Old. And I wouldn't have said it's the most accurate thing in the world. Yeah, you might be able to read it, but it's a lot easier top read it if it's actually spelled correctly.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Yeah. It's very interesting.

It's just a part of a bigger picture, though. When the human brain evolved, there wasn't yet any written language around. So, the ability that makes it possible to easily read that messed text in fact evolved for something else. What was that?

Or it could be that it evolved from humans needing to read written works on poorly made paper/stone/writing surface and using crappy pens/carvers/writing utensils.

Either way, it's damn cool to see, and it's amazing how fast you can read it, as if it's not messed up at all.

You do it involuntarily.

My brother learned in his psychology class, that it really isn't an evolved ability as much as something our brain does with everything, not just reading. Our brain can only store 6 to 7 numbers in a row. But humans can recite list of numbers that are 15 to 20 digits long, because they don't remember the whole thing, they remember 6 or 7 "groups" of numbers.... for instance 2 3 5 1 8 0 6 3 8 6 2 9 2 2 is difficult to remember, but 235, 1806, 386, 2922 is much easier to remember. It is the same thing with words, we remember each word as a "group" of letters, not as individual L, E, T, T, E, R, S.

It took me longer to read your post than that paragraph because you put a p right after your to.

It's proof of the advanced pattern-matching capabilities of our brain. Human beings see patterns everywhere, even when they don't necessarily exist. We recognize faces in clouds and in ink blots because we're constantly matching patterns stored in memory with incoming visual data. A pattern does not have to match by 100% for us to recognize it, which is why in this case we recognize words in jarbled letters.

Unless you have a program that does that automatically, it's more trouble writing wrong with set rules than writing correctly (not counting unintended spelling errors).

Once you figure out what you did to the words (adding r to the beginning and t to the end) it is. Trips you up a bit more when you start reading though.
