Weren't you in a car crash that destroyed half of your face? Or was it someone else that posted that thread. I though it was SAJN_Master.

[edit] I only mention it because your face doesnt look half destroyed... bah, after reading some more captions the story unfolds. I could never have told that you were in a car crash that recently.

You people forget that there is more than one faction of Christianity. I'm a Christian as well but I'm not a Catholic, like SAJN obviously is so I had no idea what the heck Confirmation is.

Yes, both Catholics and Protestants do it. However, not all Protestant sects do it because they think anything related to the Catholic Church is the incarnation of the devil...

Confirmation is one of the most important sacriments of Roman Catholicism. It essentially invokes you as a full, adult member of the Church, and you must have a sponsor (typically a relative) and you need to take a name as a confirmation name (and I believe it has to be a Saint's name as well, or at least mine is).

That said, there's nothing to stop you from still being a lazy *** and probably going straight to Hell when you're done with it. (Like myself, for instance.)

I'm not Catholic and I know what it is. Then again, I used to belong to the Church of England, which is about the same with no Pope. I was never confirmed since after we moved down south we've been baptists. I'm not getting the name thing. Can you explain that bit?

Catholics, Anglicans, and Lutherens do the confirmation-as-sacrement thing. Most Protestant denominations do not. A good percentage of American Christians, if not the majority, are never confirmed and probably don't know what it is. This is not unusual or unexpected. Lay off, Noble.
2004-05-30, 10:23 AM #31
My confirmation was five years ago, at the age of 15. I'm Lutheran (like over 90 percent of all Finns), and the actual ceremony did not involve a sponsor nor choosing a special confirmation name. We wore white robes (whose name I forgot, it starts with an A) and vowed our faith. Prior to the actual ceremony was a two-week (it could have been one, I remember it as two though) confirmation camp, which is an alternative to a Sunday school of sorts in which one also participates before the ceremony. Even prior to the camp I had to collect a certain amount of points that would allow me to attend the actual camp; these points were gathered from partaking of various Christian events, such as Sunday sermons. Certain events provided more points than others.

I don't believe in God, but confirmation is essential in the Lutheran (at least Evangelic-Lutheran) church to acquire rights like the right to be wedded in the church and the right to act as someone's godparent.

Not meaning to hijack or anything, but it's kinda related; I was confirmed last wednesday (the 26th). My saint name is "(Saint) Bernard", for my grandfather (who passed away on the 25th [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] -- some of you probably remember the thread I posted... that's a different story). My middle name is also Bernard, also for my grandfather. My relatives in his family were all proud of my choice, [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif].
