Does handheld multiplayer online sound shocking to you?

Supported multiplayer, that is.

With the release of the DS's Mario Kart (9.5 ign) which will be uflly supported multiplayer online, as well as the PSP's SOCOM (8.3 ign, 8.7 gamespot), as well as the upcoming Infected (nov 15th), do you guys find it to be shocking that we live in a world where people can now walk into any unsecure (or secure...with the security key) wireless room and play people from across the United States by simply connecting with their handheld?

I started a thread earlier about PSP's socom 16 player wireless support and no one gave it a second glance. It even has voice chat via a tiny sony mic/headset

Are we really not finding this surprising in today's new version of cellphones with browser/video support world, or are you guys just not appealed to by these things?

I played online for the last couple days and it's like playing counter-strike for the first time... except I can take it anywhere in my pocket instead of my PC or laptop. I find this to be amazing. Perhaps you need to experience it to find it awe-inspiring...or perhaps it's not awe inspiring to the majority of us?

Do we play online so much now that nothing is amazing?

So tell me guys... what's your opinion.

Is this shocking to you, or did you not know about it, or do you not care, or is it somehthing that you think is completely unappealing and practically old news.

All I have to say about video game technology is..

God damn I can't wait to see what the graphics and capabilities of video game engines are going to be like in 10 or 15 years. Jizztastic.

With regards to the multiplayer thing, I think it would be hard to play an MMORPG online on a handheld, but a game like a FPS or soemthing, yeah, that's awesome. But I dont play em.

Frankly, I find that wireless multiplayer isn't all that great, yet.

When there is wireless internet available across the globe (as in, as available as cell phone signal is right now), then I'll find it insanely awesome. But at the moment, it's merely a novelty, unless you have a lot of friends who all play em.

I'm not suprsied given that WiFi access is becoming far more common.

Yeah, Matty's vision will most likely become reality at some point.

I don't find handheld multiplayer online to be shocking (the N-Gage already had it with Pathway To Glory, by the way, not to mention some little online mobile Java games even before that), but I do find it appealing, especially with my recent purchase of the PSP.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I'd rather see some new ideas rather than play Quake 7 and UT2k10.

We don't talk about the N-Gage. The N-Gage was a non-handheld.

I'd argue that the PSP is not a handheld (or is only 1/10 a hand-held, since it's designed to play your music, watch movies, and do your dishes too :p

I dunno if the idea of wi-fi portable play is amazing or not, as I haven't had the chance to experience it myself, but man do I want to play MarioKart DS.

...So wait, because it has EXTRA functionality, it's not a handheld? This doesn't make sense.

Also: In my dinky *** bum**** kansas town, there's wifi hotspots EVERYWHERE. I don't think we're that far off from getting global wifi networks, honestly, and it's exciting that people are taking advantage of it.

We've had multiplayer in handheld consoles for years, even though it's much more bigger now, it's still not shocking to me.
