So i have a movie cover which I am trying to work with. Im basically trying to add on to it.

My problem is that when I open a picture in Photoshop, it wont let me draw around the picture. Im trying to have the picture inside of a project but Photoshop will only let me draw ON the picture, not around it. Is there a way to just have a blank white screen and then add the picture as part of it, not the whole thing?

Sorry if this is vague

Paste it into a new layer?

Make the canvas bigger, paste it in, and listen to more Led Zeppelin.

Pirate it. :p

p.s. Don't pirate it. Because I don't think I am allowed to encourage illegal acts on Massassi, and I don't feel like checking the rules now.

double click the layer and it should bring up a renaming thing. "Layer 0" is default, but as long as it isn't called "background" you should be able to edit it.

... And then buy a Led Zeppelin CD and play it in your Dad's CD player.

And if it is "background", C&P it into a new layer and delete BG, since you can't unlock BG

Uhhh

File->new

choose canvas size larger than picture
past picture into new canvas

You can't draw "around" the picture because there's nothing around the picture .. the gray is just filler, it's not canvas
