...well, Windows XP. It gave so many headaches, so I switched back to Windows ME. That was actually my second tryst with XP, and I really gave it a chance to impress me. It failed to live up to my expectations. After 2 and a half months of working with it, compatabilty problems, and just too slow working with everything. Whereas XP looked good, Windows ME is just that much more practical.

Anyone else complaining about their OS?

Why on EARTH did you pair 2000 with ME? That makes selecting IMPOSSIBLE

Fixed.

On the topic of XP and whatnot: I like XP. I like 2k. I despise ME.

I was quite fond of 98, but XP is growing on me. I still think 98 is simpler though...

I'm sorry, I am laughing so hard at this that I am crying, oh good lord...

Wait, I forgot, WinME IS a form of torture. Oh well.

I think your major issue is that your computer is too bloody old. If you can't run XP because your PC is too old (thus, no drivers and too slow), GET A NEW PC.

XP is more stable than 98, provides more functionality than 98, and is more secure than 98.

XP works fine for me, I've never had any problems with it. Only thing I guess I could complain about is Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and MechWarrior 2 refuse to work properly :(

I triple boot XP, Fedora, and OS X x86
2005-11-13, 4:48 PM #14
where did you get OS x x86?
2005-11-13, 5:00 PM #15
After I started using XP, my preference, 98 started to look ugly and ancient.

Yeah, do tell.

I guess some people share the files in file-sharing networks
2005-11-13, 5:53 PM #18
I would hope file sharing networks share files, otherwise they wouldn't be very popular networks now, would they?

I use 2000 and Kubuntu linux on seperate machines. Only problem I've ever had in 2000 is older DOS games (The Incredible Machine etc.) I can't quite seem to get them working under WINE or the CVS build of Cedega either.

Uh, I run FreeBSD, NetBSD, DragonFlyBSD, and Windows XP. I need another box so I can setup an OpenBSD box.

Wow... just wow... how can anyone like Wins ME over... anything? Windows ME is the most buggiest piece of crap I have ever used. I'm extremely glad I upgraded my computer to Windows XP and escaped the hell known as Windows ME. My mother's computer sadly suffers from Windows ME still because Windows XP can't be copied to more than one computer because of the activation crap you have to do through the net.

For general-purpose computing I prefer a UNIX-like environment, but gaming frankly isn't worthwhile on anything but Windows - so I use Windows XP.

If games actually came out on Linux, and hardware vendors provided Linux drivers (or even just the references needed to build drivers), I'd be quite happy to switch over entirely. Actually I'd be happier with the references, because that's something to do.

Win 98SE. Best of the pre 2k Win OSes. I'm continually dabbling with Linux, but I think I will always have access to a Windows computer just for gaming. Since my computer hardware won't run the newer games that require >98, I think I'll be pretty safe sticking with it for now.

I don't even get why XP would give you so much trouble. Its so bloody easy. And IMHO is much more stable than any other windows I've tried before. Sure its a resource hog, but still.

XP Pro all the way. And I can't wait to see what Vistas can do, though my hopes arent too high.

It's not just your opinion. NT OSes are a thousand times more stable than 9x. I have never experienced a BSOD that was not hardware related with XP in like 4 years of use.

Quoted for Truth, mostly.

NT4 (pre 2000 and XP, back in the Win98 era) was not nearly as great of an OS. It was still stable, sure, but it had horrible compatibility, and thus wasn't meant for the average home user.

Ditto, only time I've seen XP BSOD is when I had a SpeedPad that couldn't handle multiple inputs while using the D-pad.

Considering OpenBSD needs a fast box to perform well, that's actually a pretty good idea. :p
