I leave mine on. It's running SETI@home, and I'll be damned if I miss an alien signal because the computer was off.

24/7, as are my server box. My laptop tends to hibernate whenever it's left alone for a while, but is never really "shut down", per say.

Leave it on? You mean it turns off?

I turn it off when it's not being used.

Wow, I personally think you guys are nuts to leave it on so long. Apparently energy bills don't mean much to you guys, eh?

The PC generates more electricity turning on and off than it does staying on, as the majority of power supplies have reserved circulating energy. The thing that sucks juice it the monitor. Turning that off when you're not using it will save you lots of money, a lot more than turning on and off your PC.

That said, mine's on 24/7.

Home computers are off when they're not being used.

I leave my work computer on when I go home though, in case I need to access it from home. Don't really fancy a two hour round trip for a five-minute fix.

I always turn the computer off when I'm not using it. It'd be nice to be able to leave it on over night to download stuff, but the noise drives me nuts. That and it's probably crash before anything finished...

That said, I tend to leave it on for extended periods during the day, just turning the monitor off when I'm not actually using it.

Meh, my PC is in my room, and makes too much noise and heat for me to sleep comfortably.

I leave it on, I run an IRC bot and everything disconnects at stand-by

I turn mine off because there are so many power outages here anyway that it would just be bad for my computer to leave it on.

24/7 I don't reboot unless something really goes wrong.

Record time since installing XP is a month.... which is incredibly sad and a testimate to how stable my system is running it. Under 2k with little change in running and installed programs I was getting 3 or 4 month uptimes.

It's not that much extra. :p

I usually turn mine off once every two weeks.

It's only on when someone in the house is using it. Which is practically 24/7 anyway :p
2005-11-14, 9:01 AM #32
You need to add more options than that Savage...

Anyways, I sometimes keep mine on for days and other times I turn off it when I'm leaving home. Its usually that I forget to turn it offwhen it's left on.

I generally am forced to reboot every week or so, either an update that doesn't give you the option to not reboot, or something crashes (usually self-inflicted, like borken missions or mods)

My computer rarely crashes or freezes, I take care of it. So, I usually only turn it off when I know I'm not going to be on it for a few days.

I havent turned my personal computer on in nearly a week.
2005-11-14, 11:14 AM #39
Once I turn it on, it will remain on standby when I am not using it during the day. Before I go to sleep (or after the last time that I think I will use it for they day), I shut my laptop down.
2005-11-14, 11:18 AM #40
I turn it off when I'm not at home or when I'm about to go to sleep. Since I'm at either work or school till after 6 at night on weekdays, it doesn't make any sense to have it running and sucking power the other 18 hours of the day when I wouldn't even be able to use it.
Life is beautiful.
