New sprint cell phone

I'm considering buying a Sanyo MM-9000 or maybe the Samsung SPH-940. I'm looking for a phone with a camera, good reception, Sprint's Ready-Link, and a data connection for a PC (so it can be used as a modem just in case).

Does anyone use one of these phones? Are they worth buying, or should I go with something cheaper?

I hear Sprint phone service sucks, but I have no factual evidence either way.

I know it does from firsthand experience...not only that, but they charge too much. But I digress...

What models of phones does Sprint support?

A rock, a twig and a plunger. Because reception doesn't really matter.

I get great reception with Sprint, on the MM-8300. It has all of the things you mentioned, and it is not very expensive either. I like the phone quite a bit.

No, forget Verizon, and dump Sprint. Go with T-Mobile. They have great coverage (plenty of their own towers and they rent from cingular where they don't have coverage), the most inexpensive plans (check out the Get More 1500+) and the coolest phones (T-Mobile Sidekick, Motorola RAZR, blackberries, etc). And their international spokeswoman is Catherine Zeta Jones.. rawr.

Well I do like Zeta Jones. :)

But my current Sprint phone is dying on me, and I would have to wait about six months for my service plan to end. I might just wait until then to buy a new phone if there's such a big difference in service. I live in San Diego, and from what I hear, Nextel has the best (and most expensive) service. Don't know if that's true or not.

T-Mobile's my top choice, but their phone lineup sucks hard. There are SO many much nicer GSM phones out there on the market. Well, I guess if you don't like the phone you get initially you can always sell it on ebay and then pick up a much snazzier phone :D

Yeah, but as far as I know, they're still offering seperate phones and services.

I would love a pure pay-as-you-go cellular service with no strings attatched. I highly resent having to pay for minutes that I don't use.

I use Sprint right now and I'm thinking of changing over. Any provider that would offer me pay-as-you-go would get my business for a long time.

I'll probably end up going with the Sanyo, but I still need to ask around to find out if Verizon or T-Mobile has better service than Sprint in SD area.

Thanks for the input guys. ;)

I sell cell phones, for Sprint, T-Mobile, and Cingular. There is no one carrier that has the "best" coverage, it just depends where you live. I've heard up north T-Mobile is one of the best for coverage, but down here in central Texas, they kind of suck. Sprint would be closest, because they still make use of analog roaming towers where as Cingular and T-Mobile just use GSM. Sprint also has the best call quality when on the digital signals, so if the coverage is good in your area, they would be the best to go with. Plan pricing is also very close, with T-Mobile being the best in single line rate plans, and I think Sprint being the best with family plans.

As far as the phones, it's quite a coincedence that you would mention both those models. I'm looking into buying the A940, and my co-worker is looking into buying the 9000. The A940 is going to have the best camera, a 2-MP vs the 9000's standard 640x480 camera. Reception is going to be about equal. Normally, Sanyo's have the best reception, but in this case the Samsung got good ratings on reception. I know for sure the Sanyo can do a PC hook-up but I don't know for the Samsung. They both support EV-DO so you would think a PC hook-up would be a good feature to add. I know the Sanyo will have Ready-Link but again I'm not sure about the Samsung. Check www.phonescoop.com for feature lists. I can tell you that holding both of them and playing around with them, the Samsung seems like a more feature packed phone, as well as having a lot better looking screen. The Samsung also has bluetooth.

It is by far the most accurate when compared to the fact that the only coverage map Cingular will show you is in the brochure, and Sprint's is a little more accurate than that as well as being able to show you tower locations. In any case, the T-Mobile coverage map system is not exact. They take the tower locations, with what type of signal antennas are there, and run it compared to the geography in the area, to get a rough estimate of how far and strong the signals will go. So many other things can affect cell signals.
