... and all I have to say is that this game is amazing. I love just about every aspect of it's gameplay! There's so much variation... drive a jeep, fly a hang-glider, race a boat... and the graphics are amazing! I can't stop starring at the bump-maps, or marval at the unlimited draw distance. And to top it all off, it runs almost perfectly in Linux under Winex with the loki installer. (5 CDs [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif] )

I suggest that anyone who hasn't played this game so far do so now. PC Gamer gave it a 95%, and they rarely give scores higher than 93%.

I'd be more interested in it if the graphics didn't keep creeping out on me :x

What do you mean by that Correction? I had problems myself when I had the "Shadows" setting on Ultra High. The water kept disapearing, and objects would randomly turn black and grey. When I set this setting to medium, the problems magically went away.

That was on Linux with my Nvidia card. On Windows with my ATI card, I had strange problems with objects having this wierd checkered pattern all over them.

What is your framerate DrkJedi82? You can run the game on those specs? I thought the minimum requirements were higher.
2004-06-01, 2:19 PM #8
my framerate probably hovers around 15fps with occasional drops enough to play the demo... not enough to buy the game... unless i found it really cheap... even then i couldn't install it

it's kinda funny how many games with higher requirements than my machine actually run

No, the demo usually runs fine until I die or something and have to reload the level. Then the whole world (like terrain and stuff) is all invisible and there are like these triangles everywhere like the vertecies and all screwed up ... its really hard to explain. it's not just a simple graphics error like "trees look odd" type stuff, it literally makes the game unplayable..

Far Cry runs great on my PC, with everything on very high and antialiasing at 1280x960. Of course, it does slow down in some places, but considering how good it looks, I think I can live with the occasional drop in framerate.

The best part of the game may be the editor... been working a lot with it recently.

Sounds like an artifacting error. Your card overclocked?

No, I don't think it's a hardware problem because I experience the same thing from time to time. Sometimes the levels are kinda buggy. For example, portions of the ground will load with no texture. I think the problems vary from person to person...

For some reason, all new games are having errors like this. I've heard of the same things on UT2k4 and have experienced it on BF:V.

I still enjoy loading a map, getting a boat, and just cruising around seeing how far the game will let you go from the mission area. The levels are surprisingly huge [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Plus if it's a level where reinforcements might come in jeeps or a helicopter, it's fun ambusing them while they're standing by their transport a few coves over waiting for the call to come in. Shame you cant hijack the copters though...
