SWG questions

I didn't want to hijack the other thread, so I'm starting my own. I have some questions. And just so you know, the only other MMORPGs I've every played is WoW, CoH, and a little Ultima Online. First I'll go through each one on my likes and dislikes and people can respond on how each compares to Galaxies.

WoW: Love it. They say it's for casual gamers, but it sure does have a lot of mindless grinding 50+. That's the only real downside I can see on this game. I have a Hunter, Rogue, and Shaman. Enjoy all three of those.

CoH: Loved it and hated it. Loved the enviroment, atmosphere, classes, character customization, etc. Hated the level progressions. To me you either have to do a hell of a lot of grinding from the get go or do cookie cutter quests over and over until you run out and then grind anyway.

Ultima: Played a little bit. Liked the possibility of housing. I didn't engage in any pvp though. I heard if you got killed, you got your stuff looted by the enemy, which I think is crap unless they can only take a little bit of money.

Alright, now specifics of SWG

Are there different factions and/or PvP? Is it possible to be Imperial?

What seems to be the average maturity level of players?

What is currently the most overused class(or is there somewhere I can find out like warcraftrealms.com?)

Compared to WoW, how casual gamer friendly is it?

In most games I like to deal damage, preferably in melee if possible. I played both Blaster and Scrapper in CoH and Dark Melee Scrapper was my favorite(I still liked blaster though). I enjoy all the classes I've played in WoW, but I think I like Shaman the most(even though PvE turns to **** post 50) because he's a little of ranged and melee. What class in SWG falls the most in line with this playstyle?

Are there any classes that are obviously overpowered or obviously gimped?

Is it possible to solo level or does the game require group levelling?

What is end-game content like?

Any help is appreciated. I'm now off to download the trial. >.>

Yes definatly. You can be an imp or a reb, or even a neutral.

Yes and Yes. There are probably about 30 or so different factions. Ranging from Hutts, Jawas, Tuskans, and Local Authorities to the Rebels and Imperials.

Obviously, the Rebels and Imperials are the primary factions and the ones who provide the most content and perks.

The first guild I was in had 2 other 21yr olds and 4 30+ yr olds. The majority of young players I have seen are among the most muturist I've seen in any other MMO. The ones to worry about are the 16-22yr old cocky bunch, though I think most them have left now that they can't macro their PvP rating... :)

They just changed this so there's no way to tell at this point. Their all pretty well balanced, not only in the Combat professions, but also in the crafting and entertainer professions as well.

Pretty friendly. The only thing you'll have to worry about now is house and harvester maintaince but at the time being (due to Katrina) they have put maintaince has been put on hold.

I think Bounty Hunter is the only one with strictly Melee AND Ranged combat abilities.

All of the combat professions are supposed to be completely equal now. However, I hear the Jedi are getting mopped up by those who only use range. However, in saying that, there's no excuse for Jedi not to be able to get close enough with their force run. So I'm not sure why the Jedi are having so much problem with it. Give me a few days and I'll get back to you on that.

I'm pretty sure that the first 30 levels are primarily solo quests now. But yes, you can solo level though obviously group leveling is going to be a little faster simply due to the benifits of having a mixed skill group (especially those that include medics) to help keep you going longer in a fight.

There isn't an end-game. They are still adding higher levels to the game and continuing to add high-end game content (ie, the Trials of Obi-wan expansion).

I didn't think it was bad, even though I'm just at the start.

I have another question. I am very familiar with WoW and how it works. What are the similarities and differences between WoW and SWG, mechanics-wise? Is it a completely different experience or will I be to understand how things work from the start? What about compared to CoH mechanics?

Woah dude, they changed SWG to a level system?

And most gimped class: Smuggler. I don't care how many people say it isn't, it always has been, currently is, and always will be.

Kieran, most MMORPGs have the same basic idea so its always easy to catch up on. You wont find yourself "in a whole entire new world."

Basically just read the manual while the game installs, run through the tutorial, and you'll be all set.

Yeah, C-3PO will quide you through the basics. You should be able to master it by the time you get to the three stormtroopers in the hanger bay. :) If you've never played it before, I'm iffy on where to tell you what package you need to purchase. The total experience will give you the core game plus the first 2 expansions (JtL is now Free and RotW). This will give you a BARC Speeder (for which most would buy off of you for 50k credits or so). The manual would be obsolete, though (not that you'll need it). OR you can wait until the 22 for the SWG Starter Kit that's coming out. You'll get the core and JtL, but I don't think you'll get RotW. However, you'll get a choice of a Rebel X-wing or an Imperial Tie Fighter. So, you won't have to worry about paying tavel costs for planet to planet travel. Though don't let the be the sole thing that persuades to go for option number 2 as you'll get a ship the minute you sign up for a space faction (rather it be Rebel, Imperial, or Freelance).

I'm betting Smuggler is more on par with the rest of the professions now. I know that one of the key new elements is that they can now "Fence" goods. This simply means that at any time, anywhere, they can sell stuff out of their inventory for credits. This is good because if your friend is say, a commando, and wants to sell his old weapon or armor and doesn't want to wait for someone to (maybe) buy it off the bazaar, he can instead pay you to "fence" (sell) it for him immediately. AFAIK, you can still slice weapons, armor, terminals, etc.
