So I figure I'm due for another once since I haven't had one since my good old Thermaltake Golden Orb.

So I figured I'd jump on the whole "jet engine" thing.

While those look incredibly goofy, they actually do quite a nice job of keeping airflow consistant without adding much turbulence. Figure it'd be a nice complement to the pretty nice system of 4 fans I have set up to keep the airflow good and steady in there right now. Not to mention a friend of mine who uses these in all the PCs he sells likes them a lot.

Oh whoops, left the post sitting there for a minute and came back to finish it and must've forgotten I'd written part of something on the end so I tacked it on somewhere else.

I have this baby sitting on my CPU, it's fricken huge, this pic is less than 1:1:

Also have this monstrosity clamped to my video card:

Plus 2 large case fans, and a PCI card with 2 fans on it which blow air onto the front of my video card.

Yeap, it's cool in there [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Do you have that fan clamped to your APG card or is that a PCI video card... cause it looks like a hell of alot of overkill unless your really overclocking it.

AGP card. The old fan on it was busted and making a lot of noise, so figured I might as well grab a replacement that can be transported to my next video card.

And yeah, it's overclocked. A lot.

Meh, really doubt that card needs anywhere near that, even heavily overclocked.

But all that big crap should be blowing in roughly the same direction or else it's just creating mad chaos but not letting much air escape.

Hence why I'm getting goofy jet fan, so the only thing blowing any air out of line will be the teenie chipset fan.
2004-06-01, 4:30 PM #8
Well there's an intake fan at the front of the case, an exhaust at the back, and everything blows in the direction of the direct line between those 2 case fans.

Heh, I have 2 intake and 2 exhaust. My processor runs a bit warm though. Which is fine if I planned on leaving it where it is, but I'm not really satisfied with only 250 MHz FSB, heh.

Man, I wish I had more fans in my system. Right now, I have a fan on my CPU, my video card, a case fan, and a extra fan that uses a expansion slot that cools off the expansion slots. However, the computer STILL gets as hot as 150 degrees and when it gets that hot, it crashes whenever I play a game like Jedi Academy or UT2004. I have to let the system rest every few hours whenever that crap happens. Maybe I should just place my room's fan next the case or submerged the case in a tank of water (I'll be sure to seal off the insides extremely well before I'd do that, deerr)

Yeah, when all else fails, pop the side off and get the big fan out, heh. I've had to do that a few times.

I've just got processor fan, chipset fan, video card fan, two intake fans(one's also on a hard drive to keep it a bit cooler), two exhaust fans, and two in the PS...

I just wish this fan came with a front panel mounted potentiameter like some of the thermaltake ones and such do.

Eh, I have just two 120mm fans in my case (one intake and one exhaust), an 80mm on my CPU heatsink, and a decent cooler on my video card and I hardly have any problems with temperature, even when overclocking. If you're getting really terrible temperatures, either you have turbulence or your intake/exhaust fans are in all the wrong places.

If all else fails, buy a new case; sometimes a case is so bad that it can never be cool enough, no matter what you try.

IDE cables are your worst enemy when it comes to cooling too, heh. Why I switched to rounded ones a long time ago.

Just realized that I can basically just drill a hole in the front of a drive bay panel and make my own front mounted speed control.

The Thermalright SP-97 is a monster, coming in at 3.9*2.3*1.2 inches. It's so monstrous that it has to me mounted right into the motherboard, because the socket can't support that much copper.

And here's Thermalright's newer, even bigger heatsink:

Uh, yeah, huge. Copper base and heatpipes, nickle plated, the rest is aluminum.

Although this is by far the largest HSF ever, designed for Intel's Prescott. I am not sure if it's real or a hoax.

Yeah, I've seen that bottom one. Pretty sure it's real, although something that large wouldn't even fit in my case with the side on it, and my case is massive.

I want one of those.

I actually have a similar HSF. It does pretty well. I like the variable speed and even on high, it's not too loud. It keeps my mobile 2500+ @ 2.3ghz at a decent 38C idle, 42C load.

Design reminds me of the good old golden orb, cept much bigger.

Seriously though, this is my case and it's massive and I don't think there's any way that thing would fit on it.

Funny that they call it a "Prescott fan" when it's just a socket 478 fan. Prescott or Northwood, doesn't really matter...
