So... I've been working on a forum system for a while now, and it's finally ready for beta testing. If you would be so kind as to check it out and report bugs to me at brian@massassi.net I would really appreciate it.

This is a commercial product, meaning, I'm going to charge for it when it's done. You can get more information on the FAQ page of the beta site.

Please don't go too nuts - please follow the decency rules from here, but you can basically post a bunch of gibberish or whatever you want in the "Testing" category.

I'm mainly interested in hearing your general thoughts on what is good, what is bad, and what is missing. Of course I have a huge list of features I want to implement, but I want to hear your opinions on what is most crucial.

And yes, there is a difference from vBulletin and all the rest - people can sign up for their own forums and manage them themselves. So you could basically run your own EZBOARD site if you purchased this system.

Also, the code behind it doesn't suck. And hopefully after people buy it, they won't have to upgrade every other day to patch glaring security holes.

I just tried to requester, and received an error that "Column 'user_private' cannot be null" unless I checked the "Private Registration?" box...

I love the PHPness of it, and how it loads, not the whole damn page.

Why exactly would I choose your product over another, if I was in the market for forum software?

It will let you run your own EZBOARD type system, where you host other people's forums. You guys can click "Register Board" to create your own boards, where you can manage your own forums, members, titles, ban_lists, etc.

would us as massassians get a free copy? >.>

I like the ease with which you can categorize, describe, label, and create your forums... 'tis nice. Plus, the custom titles based on postcount (post in le board de saberopus!) are nice.

If I click on the "Public Members List" link, it says "Showing 1 - 6 of 6" right above the list of just one entry for Brian. When I click on "Do you want to see full member list" it shows "Showing 1 - 1 of 1" right above the list of one name. Then, if I click on the "Public Members List" link again, it takes me to the screen as if I had clicked the "full member list" link. I hope that made sense. It isn't exactly a bug, but it seems strange to click on the same link and get different pages up.

If you are currently viewing a board, you will see all users who have posted on that board. If you go to the full member list, you will see all members on the whole system. However, there does appear to be a bug since only I am showing up. I will check that out tomorrow.

Yes, this forum is approximately an order of magnitude faster than any other forum I've used.

Doesn't display right in IE. Use positioning rules rather than floats.

Feel free to continue e-mailing me the bug reports if you want to, but as an alternative, you can sign up for yet another account there and report them yourself.

You should be able to ban people by IP address or username on your board. The bans work on a per-board basis.

Yeah, it's freakishly fast NOW... But how will it fare with a year's worth of usless posts holding it down i wonder?

You could if you knew the thread ID number. Currently there's not a way. I will be fixing that bug soon

I think it will be as fast. In fact, on my list of things to do is populate the db with a bunch of junk users, boards, forums, threads, posts, etc. Then we can see for sure.

I saw that, looks like a bug, I think it closed one too many table tags, thus it broke the rest of the thread display. My BB code parser needs a bit of work, apparently, there are other bugs filed for it as well.

I've made a titleless forum topic containing a titleless forum containing a titleless thread which contains no text whatsoever.

Feature requests: The obvious VBulletin-style 'move thread/post', thread splitting and merging. Not if it's going to bog the forum down (because right now I think you have the fastest forum ever).

You inappropriately posted the word "sex" at least 3 times, and I don't want anything on massassi to have anything to do with sex -- a battle I've been fighting since 1998.

I can definitely move threads easily. I don't know about splitting threads and putting some posts elsewhere, I'm not sure how big a feature that is. I'll hold off and see what the "customers" recommend. Moving a thread is definite... although leaving a pointer in the original forum is somewhat problematic (from a performance standpoint).

i cant figure out what private registration does. i registered as such but am listed in all of the public member lists anyway, wherever i post.

also i posted a bunch of bugs in your bug listing although some are kind of trivial
