Repulsorpool

Hey guys, I was kinda hoping someone here could help me out. I got a 4-level floorplan of a Corellian Corvette the other day, and while looking over it, I came across the Repulsorpool.. And I'm not sure I know what that is.. Is it like a shielded hangar bay as seen on most capital ships, with a shield that keeps people in th hangar from being sucked out into cold space? That's the most sensible thing I could make of it.. I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance,

Morchaiel

A repulsor is a device used for atmospheric flight and VTOL, instead of thrusters. They were likely originally invented by ancient Corellians. Internally they consist of a series of small cones which emit a magical antigravity field when charged. Repulsors scale very well and can be installed in large arrays. They're used in nearly everything that has atmospheric flight capabilities, from small speeders, probe droids and small Incom vehicles, to large starships such as cargo freighters, Republic dropships and corvettes.

The "repulsor field" apparently has no specific geometry and can be adjusted based on the situation. According to the X-Wing series of books, the repulsor field extends several feet out from the sides of the craft, and can be adjusted/compressed to various affect. Repulsor-driven propulsion seems to work by adjusting the shape of the field, and the compression of the field is what applies the tangential force to the craft. I strongly suggest reading the X-Wing series of books. Not just for the technical commentaries, but also because the books are awesome.

The Corellia Trilogy of novels is based almost entirely around repulsor technology.

With the name being "repulsorpool" I'm guessing it's more like stored back EMF. In other words, perhaps there is extra unused energy produced by the repulsor technology and it's stored in the "repulsorpool" to power subsystems or act as a back up generator of somesort...

Uh.

Or it's how the engineers access the repulsors for maintenance?

When I first read this, I thought this was real-world stuff and I was utterly confused about wtf a corellian corvette is, or where Corellia is at all .. took me like a minute to realize it was SW hah

yeah, me too

I've kinda gotten used to it over the years though. whenever I haven't got a clue what you people are talking about, it's some deeply nerdy SW thing

A repulsorpool is just like a motorpool, except for landspeeders, skiffs, and small airspeeders instead of cars and trucks. Basically, it's a type of garage of sorts for the storage and maintenence of these vehicles.

On a Corellian Corvette, I would assume that it would be used to store small speeders as a means of moving rapidly about a planets surface and shuttle goods back and forth from the ship to other places, as Corvettes are able to land on a planet's surface.
