Who uses File > Exit anymore?

So i'm browsing the forums, and I suddenly remember that I can close a window / program by using file > exit. To be honest, I cannot remember the last time I ever used this function, if I ever have at all.

Post whether or not you close things this way regularly, and if not, how long has it been? (Windows only :p )

I think I use it most often with Paint Shop Pro, but usually not.

Hardly ever. MSN messenger must be closed through a menu, though. The upper right X just iconizes it, after all.

I never use it.

If my mouse is in that corner of the screen and I want to close the program i'm more likely to triple click the icon in the top left.

I don't think i've ever used file->exit.

Alt+F4 > *

Watch, I'll demonstrate its usefulness righ--
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I think the way I probably use most is right-click on taskbar tab -> Close.

Really annoys me when programs insert items in that menu below the Close item. The Close should always be at the bottom of that menu.

nView

I also remember using some program that put a link to a web site right below close, so when i'm on a roll swatting a herd of undesired windows, I get to that one and fall for some crappy advertisement that totally kills my rythm.

Triple? I only have to double...is that some preference setting?
2005-11-24, 2:46 AM #10
I usually just shoot for the x.

On some programs it's triple. Ones where "Close" isn't the default (bold) option. I just got used to triple clicking so I do it out of habit :p

I'm lazy, so I go for the X in the corner. But I did remember that File -> Exit was there.

You can also double click the icon at the top left. I still use that sometimes.

"Oh."

Usually the X, except for Photoshop. Ctrl+Q all the way there.
2005-11-24, 4:15 AM #15
I use it semi regularly, when you count DOS edit and other DOS programs.

Command + Q

Mostly Alt-F4. Occasionally the X.

Alt->F->X for the win.

That's only for some programs though. Most of the time it's the little 'X' in the corner.

i right click the buttons of programs in the taskbar and click close to close most programs.

Alternative to Alt+F4:

Alt+Spacebar+C

Only works in programs that actually show the upper-left icon.

You can also minimize and maximize the program using Alt+Spacebar+n/x respectively. It's how I minimize with the keyboard.

If I need to minimize everything to get to the desktop, I use Win+D.

If I need to get to my computer, I use Win+E.

Other than that, Right click and Close is what I use alot, especially if its a bunch of folder windows.

I use that over Alt-F4 all the time, much less hand movement. And moving the mouse to close is too much work.

Cool Matty- Don't forget Windowskey + R for run, and windowskey + pause/break for system properties.

Also, Windowskey + M is better than +D. +M will minimize/unminimize only things that can normally be minimized. +D will do everything, which includes things that DON'T go to the taskbar. Which can be bad when there are property windows and such.

Windows + M does not unminimize. Windows + D does. Therefore it is better.
