Job for a 16 year old like meee

What kind of first time job do you think I could get at my age? I don't know where to start looking. And the unemployment rate is pretty high in my state (Oregon), so you're lucky if you even get a job. I dunno, just...gimme some vibes, I guess! :)

I worked in a warehouse this summer for HP cutting open boxes of their printer crap and sorting contents for recycling. Wasn't a great job, but money is money. And warehouses (at least the ones around here) always need more people.
yay for not posting much ever

See that's what I was thinking about, working at a warehouse. But who would I contact if I wanted to get a job at one?
2005-11-24, 3:14 PM #9
Just call around and ask for the warehouse supervisor/manager or something, if its a smaller business. He would know best what they need. Avoid asking receptionists about hiring if you can. And make sure you ask the age requirement beforehand so you don't end up wasting time at interviews if you end up being too young.

For larger businesses you could probably look online for an opening and application or something. If theres a UPS hub near you give that a shot, heard they are good to work for, think they may higher 16 year olds.

Places like fast food and grocery stores usually have a pretty high turnover rate of employees, so getting a job there shouldnt be too hard. Of course they do have a high turnover rate for a reason....

I work at the grocery store, it sucks though. My superiors are unnaturally picky.

Everyone around here works at Target when they're a teenager. It's almost cliche.

Now that I'm sixteen I'm probably going to follow suite. :o

I worked in a library between the ages of 15 and 18. I'm assuming you're looking for a part-time job, so I'd recommend this. If you get a good boss, it can be all manner of fun.

But the best way to find a job is to get hired by someone you know. Hell, I've never worked a job where I *wasn't* hired by someone I didn't already know. Contacts are a valuable thing.

Im 16, and this summer i worked at a golf course. I have to tell you that it was the easiest thing ive ever done. I got paid to sleep in a golf cart in the shade of a tree on a clear blue, sunny day. It was a private country club so everyone tipped lots of cash for no reason and employees got free food!!! Buffets on saturday free too, like steak and omelettes. Anyways, I love my job. We golf for free, and on low work times we play guitar in the back or play paintball or wash our cars.

Oh, the bosses also paid us to go pick them up food from various restuarants and we can go out for lunch ourselves or go home for up to an hour.

I look forward to going just because its free money.

The aquatics diricter at our YMCA wanted me to become a life gaurd. It sounded boring to stare at the water all day, but 7 bucks an hour isn't that bad. I mean, I could do better but, hey.

My first job was selling pools at a local hardware store. I was 16. I think I was making 6.50/hr. It rocked.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

My first job was at McD's. I eventually became a manager before I quit. We used to joke that all it took be a manager was to answer the following questions:

*holds up item*
Interviewer: What's that?
ManagerWannabe: French Fry
Interviewer: Yes!

*holds up another item*
Interviewer: What's that?
ManagerWannabe: Apple pie
Interviewer: Congratulations! You're a manager!

I started out asw a lifeguard at minimum wage. I recommend against it. And you can't get instructor certification until you turn 17 for WSI and 18 for LGI, both of which can net some more money. Also, working at Wal-mart for the past 6 months, I kind of recommend against that too, unless you do something other than cashier/code 80. Though at 16, they probably won't let you do much else, as you have to be 18 to operate even the trash compactor/cardboard box bailer.

that's actually a good suggestion.. I worked for AMC for 3 years before I finally got fed up with the management staff and quit. I now work at Universal Orlando, and it's the BEST JOB I HAVE EVER HAD... but if you are in the Orlando area, don't work at universal first.... if you do that, you won't truely appreciate it, cause you would have never worked anywhere else.

I worked very part time when I was 16. 33 hours a year at £5.50 an hour. I still do. I've been rejected from Asda twice and Staples once. Everywhere else was uninterested.

So if you're looking for a job in my area - don't. But yeah. Service jobs are good if you're starting out.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Well, I've been mowing lawns since I was 13, and it's not too bad. My first 'real' job was at a grocery store, and it was awesome. The only time we ever did anything is when the owner or head manager was around. The rest of the time was spent in the back, not doing much of anything. Right now I'm working at a plastics plant, and despite being repetitive, its a decent job.
2005-11-26, 7:13 PM #35
my first "real" job was working as a camp counsilor during the summer, last fall i took a job as a sales associate at Amercian Eagle Outfitters. Im still there now and its worked out great. i got some valuable expeirence in the business field and everything has worked out great. Anyways, retail is good like AE, Abercrombie, Polo, anything like that cuz u get good business expierence and you get to deal with all kinds of people on a daily basis.

My first job was passing out flyers door-to-door. It was freaking awesome. I made $8 an hour, got fed, and the owner's daughters were freakin' hot. It was cool beans.
