I have both Seagate and WD, so I don't know, I'll just close my eyes and pick one.

Maxtor.

Maxtor.

I used to use Seagates, but never again. They are just so noisy. My Maxtors have been A LOT more silent. That's nice.

Got Western Digital, and I've heard it's quite good.

Heh, I like Seagate because they are a lot more silent than the Maxtors (and everything else) I've used.

I think with harddrives it doesn't matter much. Everyone will have multiple failures with one manufacturer and not with another.

WD's are great drives, but they tend to be overpriced. Seagates are almost as good, but are cheaper and tend to run significantly hotter that other drives IMHO (cant for the life of me figure out why either).

If you vote for maxtor... well...

The only good thing I can say about Maxtor is their warranty replacement program is quick and efficient, unfortunately I have had chance to know this very very well from personal experience.

I've still got to replace a Maxtor that's dying on me.

Hmm... Does iomega make its own HDs, or is it just selling HDs made by someone else in its own external wrappings?

Like with any other PC component, I find it extremely useful to read a few good reviews before choosing or buying a HD.

I chose Maxtor, only because that's all I've had experience with. I didn't much like having my old one fail on me, but I do agree that their warranty replacement system is top of the line.

My Seagate hasn't failed me yet so I'm good, I've always found it quieter then my WD

My current WD is rock solid. My 20 GB Maxtor currently in linux box has never failed me. It's about...5 years old.

Had IBM's my whole life because we know someone who used to work for them, and gets us amazing deals. Never really had problems with them, I know they arn't as good as the other though. To me though, that doesn't really matter. I enjoy my IBM's.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Hitachi has the most advanced technology by leaps and bounds, but none of my drives are actually Hitachi ones. My laptop drives are Samsung, my SATA performance drives are Maxtor and my high-capacity drive is Western Digital. For optical drives I used to prefer Sony, but since the Great Satan now I've been buying as much Samsung stuff as possible.

I'm pretty much all WD now. I've tried Maxtor and Quantum, had problems GALORE with literally every hard drive I've bought of those brands. No problems with WD yet, and the price is great. I generally won't splurge for the more costly HDDs.

WD or Seagate.. I picked Seagate cause the name is cooler. But I really have no preference between the two.. I'd sure has heck stay away from Maxtor though.

Funny.. You spelled Seagate wrong twice... but differently each time.

I've had a wide spectrum of HD's and haven't had a problem out of any of them. There should really be a "Doesn't Matter" option for the poll, but I chose Maxtor because it was my first upgrade HD. :p
