Need a recommendation for physics books
2005-11-26, 9:05 AM #1
Brothers

I think I'll finally get this extremely lacking part of my academic skills solved. And I'm gonna need two books for it:

-a good physics textbook.
-a laaaaaaarge book with *many* problems and step by step solutions.

I know there are some physicists around these here parts, so if anyone could be so kind to offer some recommendations...?

Math shouldn't be over the top hard.

Thanks

Mastering Physics is pretty good

The text "Physics for scientists and engineers" is quite indepth and helpful.

Young & Freedman - University Physics is the textbook we use.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321204697/qid=1133031795/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-1731250-5231067

We also use Jordan & Smith - Mathematical Techniques quite a bit.

I haven't read through it, but it's free. I used Physics for Scientists and Engineers and it's pretty decent.

I see "physics for scientists and engineers" has been mentioned twice, and the name sounds familiar, so I'll probably look into that one.

"Jordan & Smith - Mathematical Techniques" looks helpful as well.

I downloaded the motion mountain book, looks excellent. Everything free is great, except STDs. Those suck. Thanks for the link.

Now, anyone can recommend a problems book, with JUST problems, and step-by-step solutions?

:)

For problem books, really the only way to go is Schaum's.
