Wow. I hope this works but, IMO, one day is not enough.

Doesn't it sometimes take awhile for a patch to come out?

You know, you don't have to play the game online. If the bugs bother you so much then don't play. As far as I know, it doesn't cost any money to play the mulitplayer, so if you don't like it, don't play. Also, it's certainly not the developer's duty to release patches. They can do it if they want, but as long as they're doing it for free, you shouldn't expect them to do it. If they feel they stand to benefit from making a patch, they will. Until then, stop whining.

Um... Call of Duty 2 is like some sort of gift from heaven, perfect in every way.

Why is it people need a patch so badly? I love this game more than... than... any other game I own.

Yeah, there's no way I'm reading a 20 page thread about CoD and CoD2, two games I've never played before and never intend to.

Why don't you tell us what's "supposed to work" and why I should play Ultima Online "on Dec. 17"? That's what a summary is supposed to be for.

You paid for the game. It's not free. I don't care how you reason it out, you still PAID for the multiplayer experience.

Haha, the shutdown is a funny idea. If patches are desperately needed, people will stop playing.

I would like to see a protest for some games, though, not necessarily CoD2. From what I hear, it is an amazing game. I can't then imagine large problems with it. If anything, someone should have decided long back to do a server shutdown for JO to protest the shoddy work of Raven in both SP and MP.

Okay, but what does this have to do with Ultima Online?

Edit: Oh, I see, it has nothing to do with Ultima Online, but rather a great deal to do with the CoD expansion pack called "United Offensive".

See, there's the problem. You paid for the game. The game includes a single player experience, and what is essentially a free multiplayer game. You don't have to pay a subscription fee to play multiplayer. The problem is that you paid for the game without knowing whether or not you would enjoy it. You paid for the single player game, which no one seems to be complaining about, and the multiplayer is kind of like a bonus that incurs no significant extra costs. I'm losing my train of thought.

Basically, it's a bad case of caveat emptor. You already paid for the game. You made the decision, and now it's out of the developers hands. It's not their fault that you don't like the game. They made the game, and as long as there are people willing to buy it, they don't need to do anything but sell. In no way do they have a duty or a responsibility to make patches to make the game more enjoyable to you.

Um, read this second paragraph more seriously. The first one sucks.

Would someone please explain what this issue is about? I don't have CoD or CoD2, so I don't know what the big problem is.

From reading the first post it sounds like they want anti cheating software in CoD2, not a patch for bugs. Is cheating a problem in CoD2 mulitplayer?

The problem is this is a stupid idea. What does IW care if you don't play for a day? You've already paid for the damn game. If you want to protest don't buy future products.

Angry letters to companies also do wonders. Not emails, not phonecalls, good old fashioned letters.

It's scary to think there are people out there just like us.

I wonder if we can do the same thing for JK. Of course a 9 year old game doesn't stand much of a chance, lol.

Yes, let's shut down all of JK's non-existant servers.

Legend has it, one ultimate server is still out there, controlling games for a select few, complete with mods, and patches, and engine updates, straight from a small project team that updates the game at LucasArts. But that's only legend...

Pffft, stop playing the game for a day? Go stand naked in front of the developper's studios with only their box to cover your mansexes.

You've already bought the product. How would the publisher/developer be affected by your refusing to play it online free for one day?

And this sort of online grass roots tactic isn't new, every MMO I've ever played has had this kind of revolution announcement all over their forums. The difference there is that they're paying for the service at that point and not the initial product - meaning they actually have some leverage.

If those are almost never successful when the MMO players actually have a good argument, why would this be successful when the FPS players don't?

WE WILL NOT BE IGNORED ANY LONGER.
Right. The disenfranchised angry players aren't ignored now... they just aren't placated. There will always be people who buy a game, get angry and post about a revolution/boycott/whatever and then leave the game to do the same elsewhere. The ugly industry term for them is "chaff" to denote their worthlessness, transience, and triviality.

Of course, only in one instance did I see a developer directly respond to a player argument calling the arguer a chaff player (it's usually just used behind the scenes or in articles, etc). Just another shining moment in the administrative legacy that is SWG. Most sane devs/producers just ignore them and the damage they do to the player base is marked up as minor and unavoidable. Which is my prediction here.

I hate people like that.

I won't register on the COH/COV forums because I know I'd be banned for telling people to go play another game if they want to complain.

"LIEK OMG I PAY FOR DIS GAME MONTHLY AND I WANT IT LIEK DID LOL!"

And then they have thereselves a BOYCOTT SERVER DAY!

Which is great.. except you dumbasses still paid for that particular day. Unless you waited untill your subscription ran out and registered a day later..

If anything I wish they'd do it on COV, on my server. I could raid bases while no one is around and mess their crap up.
