This is incredibly tragic... I'd hate to be that boyfriend, I'd feel so bad.

That's crazy. That type of allergy is just too sensitive.

That is scary. I have never heard of something like that before.

My bro has peanut allergies.

I was going to say; where was her epipen, but it says that she got a shot of adrenaline and it didn't do anything. Scary. I'm glad I'm not allergic to anything.

Luckily, many of us Massassians will never have to deal with these problems.

That sucks, but face it-- it's natural selection in progress.

I agree with page. It's sad, and I feel sorry for her and him, but I kind of agree with page...I guess you could think I'm evil, but I could be the next one to die of something like that.

That's terrible. If something like that killed her, I guess it was almost bound to happen eventually, but I'm sure that's not much comfort to the boyfriend.

Poor kid probably won't kiss a girl until he's 40 or so, after that.
2005-11-28, 11:59 AM #12
Natural Selection? What the hell are you talking about. It's an allergy to peanut for christ sake, not an allergy to air. That really doesn't help the human population to a great extent. Plus there is a chance that she didn't inherit that allergy either; although it has a strong genetic component, it could have still been sporadic. In any case, a very off color comment, that's for sure.

Sadly most of us here are like that already.

They haven't actually confirmed that from what I could tell in the article, but it was probable that it was the peanut allergy.

Plus, they said fewer than 100 people die from similar allergies per year... so this was a very very rare thing. It's possible that this girl (who was only 15) didn't weigh that much or something, possibly didn't have a big immune system. I dunno I'm speculating.

The daughter of a really good friend of our family died after eating a cookie with peanuts in it. Was with her friends at the mall one day, didn't even think about it. Really tragic.

Well, you know, the immune system is the very problem in allergies... So, you could say she had a too big or badly tuned immune system.

I'm just saying that if she didn't have a good immune system on top of her allergies, it would add to the problem.

Sucks that she died kissing her boyfriend. That guy is going to have problems with his life.

She didn't die WHILE kissing him. Matter of fact, she didn't die choking in his face. In he news here in quebec, it said that she supposedly died later that night after returning home to sleep.

Ouch that would suck. I think id rather die than not be able to eat those air plane penuts.
Take that there and put it in here

What is wrong with you? Seriously. Trying to impress us with how callous you are? Need to brush up on your tough guy image? Let me tell you, Page--I'm absolutely swooning.

Maybe I'm taking this too seriously, but a friend of mine's son has peanut allergies and were he to die, I wouldn't appreciate people trivializing his death as "progress."

Besides, you're not even right about the natural selection. The article stated that a study found that peanut allergies are thought to result from exposure to lotions containing peanut oil when the person was very young.

Look, people die every day. I know that I would feel differently if I knew this person personally, but I don't. It's hard to feel a deep profound sense of loss for someone you don't even know. It sucks that it happened, but that's how life works. Sooner or later, everyone dies. In this case, it's like reading the obituaries in the newspaper-- unless you know the deceased, its just like another death you hear about on the news. Noteworthy, but nothing that stands out.

Anywho...

My old best friend had major wheat allergies, and the way he found out was really sad. We were staying up late watching SW (episodes I, II, IV, V, & VI) and he was eating some wheat thins from a box, when all of the sudden he starts cramping up and barfing on the sofa. He went to the hospital and got better but he can't have ANYTHING with wheat in it. Really sucks for him.

Wait. So he just found out about his allergies to wheat recently?

I have a milk allergy. I'm sure in large enough doses it could kill me, but that would be essentially drowning me in the stuff. Basically, I get a skin rash and throw up when I eat or drink milk products. And you'd be suprised how much stuff has milk in it. ( Oh, and no, I am not lactose-intolerant. There is a difference.)

Peanut allergy isn't a genetic trait.

I have something similar. I am allergic to milk protein. It makes my exczema flare up bad. I have an occasional milkshake because it doesn't affect me otherwise. I can eat bread though because the protein breaks down when it is cooked. Or so I theorize.
