You start up your computer. Ok everything seems ok, things start loading then BAM. Norton Crash Guard Gardian pops up saying that program manager is screwing up, and that I should terminate the program to avoid a crash. So I do so and restart program manager, reset my active desktop and start browsing the internet listening to some music. BAM Program manager again. I click terminate then restart program. Then all of a sudden the same thing happens to explorer.exe, I terminate and restart program, program manager AGAIN, then explorer, then explorer again, and then the comp froze. Right now I have a white desktop, no icons or taskbars, Mozilla up typing this, a frozen trillian with remnants of the guardian, and my XG synth playing a playlist of music. As I type this, program manager and explorer are both down.

Using windows 98. The thing is, whenever I turn on the computer and don't sign into the network, everything is fine. But you see its not the network. It's like two different users, so different things go up in the task menu. Some of the things that open up in my user is norton etc. Some things I'm not too sure about are...

Rundll32 is there twice
Immapp (or something)
Nwiz
monwow
CSinject
SXgtkbar

Any idea on what I should do would be appreciated. So far everything kinda works when I end task the Nwiz, but just now it dosen't matter what I do. Argh I'm so confuzzled.

EDIT: What's really funny is that I NEVER get the BSOD anymore. Huh...

try www.answersthatwork.com
they have a task manager area that you can put in a program name, and it'll tell you if it's good or not

You're still using Win 98? Might want to think about upgrading to 2000 or even Pro, it's worth it. Not starting an OS war, just suggesting [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I just hate it when I turn on my computer and the CPU doesn't turn on with it. It's weird, but it seems to happen randomly sometimes... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif]

I'm going to upgrade to XP soon. But I need to know if it wipes out my harddrive or not

Yes, it will. If theres any machines on your network running SMB, itll wipe anything it has permissions to. Also, if youve got FTP access to any webspaces, itll wipe those out too. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Yikes... But you do realize GBK, that if you somehow make me switch to linux, YOU will have to tell me everything and spend every waking hour being my mind slave telling me how to use it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

surely it won't destroy too much of your settings if you use the upgrade feature instead of doing a new install....

I don't know about your other problems, but please disable Active Desktop, unless you really need it. It's a real resource-hog and is a pain in the bottom when it crashes.

I've found active desktop to be utterly useless. Who wants an ad-filled site on their desktop? Then theres also the channel bar... more time/space wasting advertising there.....

I use active desktop so I can do the right click and 'set as desktop' XD I don't browse the web on it. I ment to say browseing on Mozilla, not my desktop.
