One day I saw this spray when playing CS:S. I think KnightRider also posted it one day...

The picture is actually inspired from a series about pro gamers at Pure Pwnage. The episodes are hilarious! Crazy Canadians!

knightrider, you might want to add on a language warning there...

That's uh.. well, from what I could make of it (Because some videos decide to cover themselves in rainbow solid colours like Infrared) really, really... dumb.

alpha1 and Glyde:

Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot -> turn acceleration down a few notches. Just make sure to turn it back up when you're done.

Troubleshoot takes me to some dumb screen asking questions :(

You clicked the wrong troubleshoot. Once you're in the Settings tab, you have to click 'Advanced,' and then go to the 'Troubleshoot' tab.

And now I have successfully derailed the thread. So how about that Pure pwnage?

I watch that during class all the time. Kinda off topic, how is it pronounced:
"pown" or just "own"? There was a very long arguement over that during class today. (don't ask, my web design class is gamernerdville, I kinda like it)
2005-12-06, 6:34 PM #17
pown
2005-12-07, 9:36 AM #18
It's pronounced "own."

"pwn" is a mispelling of "own," just like "teh," a mispelling of "the," that is used on the internet. In speech, you wouldn't mispell it so you would say the true pronounciation.
2005-12-07, 10:55 AM #19
Believe it or not, my friends and I say both owned and powned.
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

No...it's not spelled own. It's spelled pwn. If you misspell anything else, you'd pronounce it wrong. Therefore, pwn has its own pronunciation (pwn). You lose.

I believe the correct pronounciation is "pawned". Like you pawn someone in chess. When someone says "they are my pawn" the mean they own them. Hence the meaning of a new word.

pwn doesn't have a freaking pronounciation. Its a freaking word nerds use online.

But if I want a take on it, I say Pee-Own. lol

pwn != pawn
Moo.
2005-12-07, 12:50 PM #24
pwn isn't a mis-spelling of 'own'. It either originated in the MMORPG circle or in the CS circle. Either way it's unbearably dumb, but it (at least in the MMORPG-PvP circle) used to mean pre-own, like the person is owned before the battle even started and they were owned, so they were pwned. I believe the CS people have their own distinct variant, but nobody cares what 14-year-olds have to say on the subject.

Actually Jon, I hate to say this, but you are totally wrong.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwned

Quote:
The word "pwn" is derived from the term "own". Own means to be far more skilled than your opponent, and win the round/game by a large margin of points.

It is also widely held that "pwn" originated from a misspelling of own in one of the scenario descriptions found in the computer game "Warcraft: Orcs and Humans."

That's funny, because I see:
Quote:

An alternative origin for the term may be a Portmanteau of "pre-own", meaning that the outcome was decided before the contest even began.

Glad to know you're such an authority on the subject. Oh wait, you're not.

It could have come from any NUMBER of things. Whatever it came from, it's pown, so stfu, say it right, and bring me back a banana cognac *****.

It has nothing to do with a grudge...you just think you're absolutely positively correct. And you're not. If you read my post, you'd realize I said NOBODY'S right. Oh, I must have a grudge against Knightrider and JDNITE too, eh?

Man you're fooled easily :p

people can edit entries in wikipedia, iirc.

And yes, a few seconds after you posted the warcraft thing was deleted, Jep.

Edit: ^- not by me. Someone else was editing it simultaneously as I was adding the pre-own origin thing. :p I did the entire line about 'alternative origin', including pre-own and perfect own.

At UrbanDictionary, the entry of pwn is generally defined as a mispelling of "own."

In the vids, teh_pwnerer (Jeremy) has his name pronounced as "ownerer."

It's pronounced "own." Using "pwn" speech is dumb to begin with but pronouncing it p-own, pawn, or any other variation is stupidity raised to a power.

1) MISPELLING != MISPRONUNCIATION
2) They say Pure POWNage in the intro to purepwnage. FFS.
