scorched earth has been freely avalible for a while.

Gamehippo.com has some great games that were once retail, or remakes of retail games. Such as King's Quest remake, OMF 2097, various ScummVM games etc.

GTA 1 and 2 are free.
I know I got Tribes for free. http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/tribes/ <-Found it.

The Underdogs has some good games too. I got the Incredible Machine, Incredible Machine 3, and Incredible Toon Machine from there.

Caiman.us has tons of free games too. I haven't looked through them too much, but some of them may have been retail at one point in time.
