Best musical (film version) ever?
2005-12-08, 3:22 PM #1
Ok, post what you think is the best musical (film version) ever. By best, I mean the one that left he most impact on, inspired you, the one that really made you think through the use of music. I know, most guys don't like musicals, but if there are a few really good ones out there, and odds are everyone can find one they'd enjoy.

I say it's West Side Story. The classic Romeo and Juliet, but with race and gang issues thrown in. Not to mention some pretty good music ("Tonight" is the kind of son you'd want to sing with you girlfriend ;) ). Not to mention "Officer Krumpke",a funny song that makes you think of your attitude towards your principal

So, what's yours?

Very yes,

Or maybe the new Phantom of the Opera. Wow...bunch of gamers talking about musicals...creepy, yet natural somehow.

I wanted to see the Phantom of the Opera. That of course was a good musical, hope the film adaption is good when I see it.

It is. Very well made. Some of the songs were modernized (adding of electric guitar in parts). When/if you watch it, pay attention to some of the extras, everynow and then there's some slighty amusing stuff(Batman mask during "Masqurade", forgot what else).

im gonna not say nightmare before chrismas, because it was never like a broadway musical before being a movie.

so.. RENT.

I don't think so, because it wasn't a stage show until AFTER the Film.. i think this is about Stage Shows turned into movies... not the other way around.

For based off a broadway show I'd say RENT, because its the only to really move me. If it were just any musical I'd say Singing' in the Rain or Moulin Rouge.

The Producers.

I think it kinda went in reverse though... movie to stage... can't remember... but I LOVE IT.

The Phantom of the Opera movie, while has good singing and pretty people, is not very good. It seemed to me to be poorly directed.

While I loved Little Shop of Horrors, I have to say Rent beats it for the best musical filrm version ever (that I've seen.)

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...

haha, what if that was made into a musical...I'd go to see it...hell, I'd act in it if I could, just running around the stage mubling and being hella-stoned. :)

Little Shop of Horrors.

Reason: One time at like 3am I was downtown at an intersection and a pickup truck pulls up to the light blaring "Suddenly Seymour." A big, hairy, burly guy is in there screaming along with all the female parts. It was so awesome. :)

A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I'm gonna put in a new vote, since I wouldn't be able to pin down my #1 favorite anyway:

Man of La Mancha

There be some good lines from Cerventes, plus "The Impossible Dream" is just freaking awesome.

The movie version of Phantom of the Opera was alright, but the lip-synching was terrible at times. The stage version was MUCH better.

And Little Shop of Horrors is awesome.

I always liked the music in The Sound of Music. That stupid "Do Re Me..." is pretty much always stuck in my head.

Ray, a drop of golden sun..."

That was indeed a funny scene. Takes talent to sychronize your talking to a trains noises and "sing it". Doubt you could call it singing, it was more like an early version of Rap.

YES!!

I liked the movie Rent better than I liked the show - but myabe the company that did it just was not that great. And of course the music is amazing. Love WSS, but the show is just as good as the movie and I like seeing staged shows better for the most part. Fiddler is awesome, Moulin Rouge is fantastic, Evita, I don't care that it's Madonna, is awesome. I'm a big broadway/musicals fan; you just opened up a can of worms :p
