It'll be worth it once there are more maps out there. Actually there are a lot in addidtion to the 5 offical maps.
Pissed Off?

There are plenty of maps out there now, and a number of them are really good.

Those effects look nice, but I dunno how much sense they would make during gameplay. The film grain just looks like it would be downright annoying trying to see through, though the other stuff shouldn't be too annoying. If they are trying to make the game feel more realistic, it seems like they forgot that the world didn't look all grainy and sepipa-colored in the 1940's. The videos made back then just look like that now. To the people of the time, everything looked just like we see our everyday world. Immersion in the game world should include immersion in the time period, it shouldn't look like you are watching a movie of the events 60 years after the fact.

...it's not just for gameplay if you read the article.

Besides the point but the SH series is crap without the film-grain effect.

I remember when I was little, I thought everything 'back then' was actually black and white. :o

Honestly though, I wish they would implement REAL shadows in this game as well, you know, ones that actually move depending on where the light source is... Come on Valve, this has been done since the N64.

It was, but then the mexicans and asians came into play. :p

It looks like the film grain can be turned off so that's okay, the other effects should be interesting. If they really wanted to make it realistic though, they should modify the models to grip the gun more comfortably when they're running at full pace. Not alot if any people would really grip the gun the same way they do during aiming when they're at full run and not shooting at anything.

An example would be the picture of the three soldiers running, the one with the Thompson is holding it with his arm-stretched out to the foregrip. Could just be me, but it just seems like it would be very difficult and not very instinctive to do when you run at that pace. A person running with a Thompson would probably bring his hand that was holding the foregrip closer to the magazine for a better grip when running at that speed.

Just a thought.

Cool effects but they might reduce the fun of online gameplay. I can't think of a time when I would want to play with film grain on. These effects might be more suited for SP or movie-making using the graphics engine.

I want the sort of color correction effects similar to those in saving private ryan. That washed out sort of high contrast shot is so cool. The original DoD had this on some levels just because it had certain light values.

Exactly, Kirby! Some of their sepia correction shots and the high contrast + b & w stuff gives that effect... Man, once my comp can handle it... that would just complete the game.

from what DJ Yoshi told me, valve couldn't do that with their current map format.

.bsp format FOR THE WIN! For some reason they can't get fully dynamic lighting in their multiplayer format, but iirc they have it in their singleplayer format. Don't ask. *shrug*

Huh? No they don't. Player shadows are static (and go through objects) and the enviroment shadows are also static. :(
