how come noone is talking about the sydney riots?

I mean, Fox news reported on it. That means that people here should have heard aout it in their newspapers or something. Anyway,m just look into any australian news site, or even any news site that has international news.

Because we live in the US.

yes, and fox news featured it, so unless subsidiary news shows are more U.S centric than Fox news is, they will have news of it.

Fox News is a cable network, so not everyone has access to it. Also, given the liberal slant here, not many people at Massassi are going to be watching fox news.

i was more refering to the fact that if a U.S. centric news channel has an actual report on it, it would be likely that other news programs would at least mention it.

not to mention the fact that most news websites have more than just U.S. news.

My point was, that it is likely that they would have heard of it.

I'm utterly appalled. I live in Perth, and I was holidaying in Melbourne - I wake up on the plane today to hear race riots?! Put me back to sleep please...

Boy, this has been some year, hasn't it. Hurricanes, riots, and a bunch of Massassians getting girlfriends.

I daresay the first two may have been caused by the space-time rift that was created by the third.

Is it bad that every time I hear about riots like this one and the one in France I want to be there in the mess?

I didn't know about it until I saw it on another thread. FOX, MSNBC, and CNN don't have it in Live Bookmarks, so I didn't know.

This is one liberal that actually enjoys watching Fox News. I've been out of town and missed the news. Who could dislike Aborigines after seeing Crocodile Dundee?

The fact that this thread is about why no one is talking about the riots, and not about the riots themselves, should answer the question quite well.

Here's the BBC article on what happened:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4519818.stm

Over here it was minor news. A 5-line column on page 7. Incredible. In my opinion, it's one of the worst things that's happened this year. :(

Those riots looked pretty weak on tv.

Sydney can go **** themselves.

It's like the French riots but reversed in who attacking who and lower in intensity.

I am a conservative, but I find Fox news to be generally tacky, except for the O'Reilly Factor and that news thing with _____ Smith who comes before the Factor.

Yeah but race riots would never happen down here. Hell give us a controversial sporting result and we'll make the French revolution look like a minor wage dispute, but rioting over race...?

Yeah, true it is a Sydney thing. Fact is the police here have let lebanese gangs get way way way out of hand in the southern suburbs. I don't know how many people I know who've been harrassed on some level by these gangs of youths. This problem not being dealt with for so long has just led to simmering hatred at the lebanese community in general in many areas.

I'm not justifying the riot last weekend mind you, that was utterly worthless nonsense that will set things back years if not decades. I also find it hilarious people like the "Bra Boys" of Maroubra are trying to come across as vigilantes protecting the people of their suburb from the lebanese. What crap, everyone knows if you try to surf at Maroubra beach, no matter what your race, the Bra Boys are likely to drag you out of the freaking water. They are just as bad as the Lebanese gangs.

Apparently SMS messages are circulating call for the lebanese gangs to invade Bondi, Terrigal and Wollongong this weekend. Hope to christ they stay away from Bulli. No **** at my beach people, please!

For some reason I absolutely hate angry irrational crowds. Every time a I see or hear of them, I am filled with this desire to fire an M2 .50 caliber machine gun into their midst.

A couple of posts doesn't equate to being a regular again... It's been a year and I've stopped by recently to message a few friends here I lost email addresses for whilst moving interstate, saw this, threw in two cents. Didn't really see it as an issue, silly me.

Well, that puts a much different light on the matter than the articles seem to. Glad to have that perspective.

These people are getting out of hand, IMO. They immigrate to the country and then they think they own the damn place. The end result is you have lots of deliquents running around hassling people who have done nothing to them. The same thing happened in France. I hate to admit it, but when the French interior minister called these people scum, I think he was being generous in his word choice.
