Thread about ties.
2005-12-16, 6:34 PM #1
Not sure why I'm starting a thread about ties, seems like a good idea.

What is your "tie knot" of choice? Mine would be Windsor knot. Even though I never really tried any other knots, Windsor seems the best for me. I don't think I will ever wear a bowtie.

And how did you learn to tie a tie?

I learned from my dad when I was around 10 or so. It was through some story about a rabbit or something. Funny, even though I don't wear a suit often, I can always remember how to tie a tie.

Windsor at church.

Four in Hand if I am wearing a tuxedo at a wedding but not as one of the groomsmen.

wtf you guys have names for the way you tie your tie?
That would mean there's more than one way of doing it.. news to me lol.

I do it like crossing over twice, then going through the loop?
Whatever. It works. It's easy. Looks good.

I had to look at that tie-a-tie.net site before figuring it out the names.

I've tended to tie four-in-hand style through most of high school/now because I find it the easiest to do. One of the midshipmen at the Naval Academy that my mother used to sponsor showed it to me. Beforehand, I used the Windsor style, probably taught to me by my dad and/or step-dad.

I think if I have to wear a tie again, I'll probably try going back to Windsor. It sounds like it'd look better on me.

I'm not familiar with these American names for them, and the only one I recognize from that list is Windsor, and I know I'm not using that, so I voted for half-Windsor. It might be your name for what I'm using.

Windsor. I learnt to tie a school tie at 11, but learnt the windsor working in a clothes shop at 16, which is what I use every day at work.
2005-12-17, 5:54 AM #17
I voted half-windsor, because that's what I thought it was, but actually it's a four-in-hand. haven't worn a tie since primary school though. taught by my mum.

Windsor. But every time I have to wear a tie I look it up on the internet, how to tie it.
Sorry for the lousy German

I demand to know where the "clip-on" option is!

Failing that, I guess the half-windsor, since it's the only one I know how to do.

4-in-hand. Learned it in primary school and used it ever since.

On a slightly different note, more women should wear ties because, damnit, ties look sexy on women!

Oh...I got distracted and clicked the wrong one. I think I put I wear a bow tie, but I meant I don't wear a tie. Oh well...anyways, I don't like ties (or bow ties) on guys. They look funny.

Windsor. Learned online.

My dad uses a square knot which I'm not particularly fond of.

I picked Prat because when I was drunk it looked like Pirate.

Pirates kick arse.

No. No they don't. That's like saying men look sexy in dresses, and as dud proved... ;]

Full Windsor for me, although I have, on rare occasion, been known to sport a bow-tie.

....The reason I like to wear a tie often is A) I love it when girls grab your tie to pull you closer... and B) Girls look sexy wearing just your tie.
