Can't boot up PC
2004-06-05, 10:01 AM #1
Everytime I turn on my PC, I get a
"strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"
Despite striking f1 numerous times, I can't get to my desktop(all I hear is an annoying loud beep). I tried to boot the PC into MS-DOS upon starting by holding F5 (is it F5?), but then a keyboard failure pops up. Any suggestions?

Note that I am using Windows ME.
Edit: Now I have a...
"disk I/O error
replace the disk and strike any key"
in conjunction with the above.

Yeah I used my sister's labtop to post this thread. So you guys think this might has something to do with my hdd connectors? But why would it be my hdd connectors, I haven't messed around with the connectors or abused my PC in any way.

Could be your pleasant OS went kaput finally. WinME has a nice ability to do that to a HD, corrupt it.

I don't really have any suggestions that weren't already mentioned other than getting a different OS if/when you get it to boot up again.

Check your connections by opening your case, and making sure that the plugs are firmly entrenched. I got this when my HDD got disconnected on accident while I changed RAM.

Make sure a floppy isn't in the drive. That sounds like a message you'd get if it was the case. I'll never understand why Windows can't just say "Please remove the invalid Floppy fromt he drive."

Because it isnt always Windows that says that.

Because that error message gets posted before windows ever gets read from the hard drive. Blame the BIOS/motherboard manufacturers.

But as I mentioned before, I'm not sure why my plugs would be messed up since I haven't ever open up my PC. Although I might have to try it since I don't want to send my PC to some repairer.

Now that I've thought the whole invalid system disk thing over, I've determined Apple came up with the best solution. If it's not a system disk, it EJECTS it at startup. CD, DVD, or disk.

It can't be THAT hard to incorporate something like that into a BIOS.

Did anyone else get the image of a harddrive disk flying out of a CD drive?

And you never know cloud--it never hurts to check in either case.
