Serious computer problem

Whenever I log into my laptop, it crashes to a bluescreen as soon as I get to the desktop. The error message is as follows.

Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The fileobject passed to IoCancelFileOpen is invalid. It should have reference of 1. The driver that called IoCancelFileOpen is at fault.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again...blah blah blah. I did all that and it didn't work.

Technical information:

So...what? How do I fix this?

Reinstall windows...all I can think of. It's kind of hard to troubleshoot an OS if you can't get into it :X

Did you try booting into safe mode? Or do step-by-step and see which one crashes?

I can boot into safe mode, but I don't really know what to do from there.

Please don't hate me for suggesting something totally stupid that insults your intelligence that definitely won't work, and if it does it will be a one-in-a-million chance, but have you installed any new hardware, drivers, or software recently? If so, boot up into safe mode and try deleting or replacing it.

Nope, nothing new. I was in the middle of an AVG virus scan and everything just froze up. I restarted and it did the bluescreen thing, and has been ever since.
