When I realized: Hey, you know what would make this even better? MODS! I need mod reccomendations. I don't want ANY (see: ANY) MP only mods, satellite can't play online well enough for that. Reccomend away, be they just weapon and skin conversions or full out TC's, reccomend. I do not, however, want levels. Mods or TCs that include levels are ok, just not levels alone.

I started playing Opposing Force last night, and had to install Half Life, and now I'm obsessed again. I love these games so much, I need to update my copy of Blue Shift...
I had a blog. It sucked.

if you dont have the high defenition models pack from steam you should deffinatly get it, there should be a link on the steam web site

You should look into the "They Hunger" series. Nothing like beating the undead with a shovel, or hearing "why do we hun-gerrrrrr?"

This is arguably the most professional Half-Life 1 Singleplayer mod:

There is also a huge thread on HL mods here:

Where would I find "They Hunger"? I'm checking into downloading Poke646 right now, KnobZ and also checking out Steam's 3rd party free mods for HL. Keep 'em coming guys, I'm off to play Half Life.

Ok, download Digital Paintball 2.2. Done.

Opposing Force and Blue Shift weren't as great as HL1, but they were still fun and retained the quality as the original. Good expansions with a different perspective of the incident.

Azure Sheep (Decent. Closer to classic HL stuff than the other mods.)
Case Closed (I don't recall liking this that much. More classic stuff.)
Night at the Office (I think this is the title. There's two endings. Both suck. General gameplay and story doesn't have the polish it needed either. I uninstalled it..)
Poke646 (Excellent. Remember to play the Training Level first before the main game.)
They Hunger (Great)

That's all I can remember at the moment. Mostly because half were already recommended. >.>

I recommend playing Poke646 first, followed by the They Hunger trilogy. That should keep you occupied past Christmas (unless you play a LOT in one sitting).

Also, Digital Paintball is MP only. :p

For the officlal stuff, Condition Zero is ok up until Hard difficulty, then it's just annoying, because you'd swear the bots hack. >.>

Condition Zero Deleted Scenes is a ton of fun though. It's closer to the style of Half-Life than CZ, but with CZ weapons and stuff. By that i mean you go though a series of levels and kill enemies with (relative to CZ) ease.

OP4 and BS are, as you know, both good HL mods. :)

There are some good MP mods with bots that you might find fun. The Specialists is a great mod, the bots are a good difficulty. Easy enough to take out, but they will still sometimes react faster than you.

RCBot is a bot addon for a few MP mods like SvenCoop and Natural Selection. The bots tend to actually work pretty well, except in NS if you play the regular game mode, a human player will be needed on the marine team to serve as commander. Otherwise the aliens will win very quickly. :p And in SvenCoop the bots can only solve simple hit-the-switch-to-accomplish-the-objective puzzles (basically they activate anything near them). Anything more complex needs human players.

RCBot is a slight pain to set up and use (you need to be familiar with HL's console), I recommend the version that does NOT use metamod. The directions to install it should hopefully be clear enough.

for multiplayer i find the only HL1 based MP mod i play these days is The Trenches
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2005-12-21, 8:10 PM #11
Hostile Intent is the best mod for Half-Life ever. It's what Counter-Strike wishes it was.
Think while it's still legal.
2005-12-21, 8:11 PM #12
The Trenches is okay, but it sucks when you're new, because you'll take 5 steps and die, and that's what happens.
2005-12-21, 8:14 PM #13
Guys he wants SP stuff only.

And I've never played "The Trenches". I'll have to check it out.

[Edit: Ewww... another DoD? No thx. :(]

ZZT, I don't play much in one sitting. Maybe hour, at most (usually)? Game freaks me out somewhat, to where I don't want to go around the next corner. I'll check out Poke646 if I can get it to download. It just kind of stops on my computer, and on my mom's it slowed down to like 18 kb/s, when I am fully capable of 85 kb/s.
I had a blog. It sucked.
2005-12-21, 8:17 PM #15
Poke646 has your typical alien horde, with some new faces, fyi. They Hunger is even worse, with zombies and dark environments hehehe. You'll LOVE that. ;)

Azure Sheep is better in thar regard. I don't recall it using a scare factor. Poke646 might a little, but it doesn't to any large degree if I remember right. They Hunger is all zombies so... ;)

sure but if someone doesn't have the patience to learn the game then that's their problem

but here's a couple noob tips
1. USE COVER... one shot generally WILL KILL YOU
2. the bolt on the rifles is manually operated... you fire a round you need to cycle the bolt yourself by hitting the right mouse button
3. grenades... i suggest joining a non-ff game at first to familiarize yourself with them
4. yes i know the bayonet is on the rifle... but it's still a separate weapon choice to be able to use it you cannot fire a shot then instantly stab with the bayonet... i know... that sucks

Ah...I played for about 20 minutes, and I get weirded out when I'm playing against the aliens...Marines, no problem but those aliens freak me out. I'm at the freezer, close to the marines because I just started playing today.

I'll check out Poke646, and They Hunger (sometime). As for Azure Sheep...meh, I'll look for it :P.

I can't believe this game freaks me out that much..I mean, I could go to bed right now and be fine, but it still freaks me out, with the aliens being unpredictable.

Has anybody been following this mod ? It should be awesome when it comes out.
Take that there and put it in here
2005-12-22, 3:26 AM #20
I re-installed my old copy of HL last night! I've only got as far as the first couple of run-ins with the marines though. I forgot how pesky they are, even 7 years after this game was made, I'm still used to drawing my enemies round corners to cut them down at close range. Really says something for the AI I guess.

I remember playing an SP mod based on a janitor, in much the same way Blue Shift was about a security guard. I googled it, and it was probably "Case Closed". There ought to be a really disorientating section where your gravity is reversed. Good fun fighting enemies above you.

Hey, guy, you really need to download Counter Strike, dude. It's like cool and stuff, dude. Guy, really, download it now and play it. Really uber, dude, guy.
Sorry for the lousy German

Heart of Evil-It's kind of a spoof of Apocolypse Now, only with zombies.

Wow Zloc, you'd be a good one to play System Shock 2. HL is like... Eating icecream scary compared to System Shock.

It was 11 PM. I played 3 hours nonstop today no problem. It's just at night with no lights on...*shudder*.

Got Poke646, it's kinda fun but a little..unfair I think. Seriously, a headcrab attacking in the dark when I have no flashlight to see is no fair. Still fun though :P

Currently in HL I'm at the missile silo (I've made it to Xen before, I'm not a n00b to this game) which I hate. So boring..but before that, those marines are awesome. Marines are the best part of the whole game.

HL freaked me out at times, too, so you're not alone
