Okay, here's the scoop:

I have my last exam of the semester tomorrow, and it is a biggy. Since I was occupied studying my brains out for my Latin exam today (or yesterday, I guess), I wasn't able to get cracking at this until tonight. So that means ALL NIGHTER!

I'm nearly done my 2nd pot of coffee, and I'm wired like a Christmas tree. The last time I did this was for an all-night Laser Quest lock-down, and I was hopped up on adrenaline, not caffeine. In total, I should end up pushing 34 hours before I get a chance to crash.

So...post your most intensely unhealthy staying awake situations. Beverages consumed, total hours awake, whatever.

Good luck. Having your exams near christmas sucks.

I could talk about how studies show that stress is a good brain stimuli in which information can be regurgiated more effectively but I don't have an ounce of proof and you probably don't really care.

I once watched ALL of futurama back to back for charity. A good 36 hours straight.

That was done on beer, wine and big macs.

Studying through the night is always done on tea with plenty of hob-nobs for dunking.

Probably this one time on a cruise to Sweden. I drank water and Coca-Cola all the time, which actually affected the rest of my life (at least up to date). Every time I do an allnighter I get an extremely bad taste of water in my mouth and that feels... odd.

I consumed a total of 4 cans of monster in 8 hours, which erm... is way more than the 'reccomended dose'

I stayed awake even after coming home from the all nighter, and went to sleep that NIGHT. So that's like, from 8am-11pm the next day.

I stayed for 56+ hours straight, it started on night one, where I got an insanely awesome japanese party in FFXI and partied for 6 hours straight (Midnight to 6 AM) with them, the next day, I had to write my semester research paper for english, and didnt start til 8 PM. I finished at 7 AM, only to meet up with happydud at his house early that day to hang out, then went to go see Lord of The Rings with him and some friends.

I do all nighters all the time, usually on just a cup or two of tea. But to stay up that long it took about 8 tea bags, and easily a half gallon of soda

90-odd hours, about 23 cans of red bull and some amphetamines.

when i went to sleep, i only slept for 5 or 6 hours, then i woke up and felt fine, it was weird.

i would study for all my exams like that. all night with coffee and crap on tv.

the longest i ever stayed up for was 40 hours. it was when i moved to sacramento. i couldn't sleep the 5 hour flight on the plane which drove me nuts.

I got a half hour of sleep on Sunday because I had to do a research outline that I procrastinated. Unfortunately, my coffee wore off around 11 or 12. :gbk:

Are you superhuman?

I took a 3 hour nap this morning, and woke up feeling terrible. I'm still pretty bad. I never want to even smell coffee again.

Man Staff, there was a dude on the news a few months back that died because he went 3 days straight without sleep (only small naps) and he was 28 years old.

Caffeine doesn't do anything for me.
2005-12-22, 8:41 AM #15
They did an article in the school paper about caffine intake and stuff. The kid ended up taking in way too much caffine and got fairly sick from it.

I work 24 hour shifts from time to time. I dislike having to do so, and find that since I rarely drink caffiene, Starbuck's Fraps usually do the trick for me. They probably wouldn't phase most people, as most people are very unhealthy and tend to drink caffienated drinks on a regular basis.

Unhealthy != drinking caffeinated drinks, and vice versa.

Hell, it takes like 300 cans of Pepsi in a day to OD on caffeine. Even spe's rather...er...impressive bit of dabbling in drugs is only about half the dose most people OD on.

I don't think i'll do that again then... still, it happened by accident, because I was getting wrecked at my friends house where I had the amphetamines and he had loads of red bull, and i was nailing it because it was tasty, i'd say that was about 3 or 4 years ago... lucky my heart didnt explode.

Oh dear. It seems that I broke myself (can't get tired). My last ditch effort will be to down a little booze to jumpstart my unconscious, but if that fails....how long is it before a person is supposed to hallucinate from lack of sleep?

drink lots of booze, quickly, in spirit form.

it will force you to sleep.

Heheh, thanks. It worked like a charm!

36 hours without any caffeine or other stay-awake drugs is my limit

24 hours and you'll probably start hallucinating mildy (it happens because your brain is too tired to make proper recognitions so it just makes the easiest guess rather than the best, so everyone ends up looking and sounding like someone you know).

Colas are extremely bad for your health, regardless of how much caffeine they have in them, and that includes both diet (there are actually studies that show a correlation between people who drink diet sodas and weight gain, most likely due to the fact that sugar substitutes don't fulfull ones sugar craving, and those people generally end up consuming even more sweet stuff). Most articles that I've read on the subject (written by experts), recommend that you don't drink more than one cup of caffeine a day, and that you don't drink it more than one or two hours after you first wake up, due to the fact that it's proven to cause sleeping abnormalities, which are very unhealthy. Anything that prevents you from sleeping less than seven to nine hours each day is generally considered to be bad for your health. Experts also recommend that we all take naps (siestas are even being practiced in large Japanese and Korean corporations due to the fact that they've been proven to directly correlate to increased productivity) no later than eight hours before we go to bed each night, but to make sure that they don't last more than half an hour.

I drink caffeine on a daily basis as well, but I try to keep it down to one or two mugs of hot tea in the morning, not long after I awaken.

I know colas are unhealthy, but caffeine itself isn't...for the most part. If you consume a LOT of it over a LONG period of time, you'll see heart problems, but we're talking ridiculous amounts here.

I'd like to see these experts' studies. Because I've never had sleeping abnormalities. Though I'm all for naps ;)
