Anyone have any experience with a Visa Buxx card?

My parents and I are looking to get one for when I go to England this summer, and I'm just doing some recon.

To people that have used them, how would you rate them? What are the benefits/drawbacks to it? Would you reccomend it? If not, do you have an alternate card that you like better?

Thanks!

Oh. It's essentially a Visa debit card for minors, (people under 18), and parents can put x amount of money on the card, and kids can spend it willy nilly, and then the parents are all like "OMFG J00 WRN'T SUPOPZRED 2 SPND IT ON PR0NZORZ!!"

I've always thought the concept of debit was better than credit, because then you're not tempted to overdraw on your account.

As for this particualr card, I wouldn't know. :P

Ahhhh a debit card, gotcha. Yeah they're a good idea, Visa is accepted basically everywhere. If you're near an ATM, you can get money.

I've had no experience with Visa Buxx cards, but I find that generally, 'round here, shops don't like cards that aren't plain ol' fashioned vanilla switch/visa, etc. Like, since normal VISA allows you to withdraw up to £300, even if you don't have that amount in your bank, shops are guartineed to get their money if stuff is paid with one. However, for cards like Visa Electron (and presumeably Buxx), a check needs to be made to see whether or not the money is in the account before it can be withdrawn, and many places don't have the technology required to make that check, and so, since they have no way of telling whether or not they will get their money, they do not accept the card.
