WoW hardly uses any bandwidth... I really don't think you'll use a gig with FF11.
2005-12-28, 6:36 PM #3
You're not using that much bandwidth with FFXI

You could play for 72hours straight before you would hit a 1GB bandwith limit, approximately.

1 gig a day? 1 gig a month?

On average an MMORPG is going to use probably about 5-10 MB/hr where you're actively doing something. No way you're going to use near a gig in a day playing an MMORPG. In a month, yeah, but if you're limited to a gig a month, then well, I feel horribly sorry for you.

Limiting the bandwidth for the game to a level that's enough to affect how much the game uses is going to also result in poor performance in the game.

1 gig per month, but all that happens when we pass it is that we are limited to 60k download speed. as this internet is shared, it is not nice to go over the download limit.

I don't think you realize how effing hard it would be not to use broadband at over a gig per month. I probably use a gig every few hours just browsing around, to be honest.

Yeah, wow. That's a gigantic crock of ****. A gig a month on broadband is like 20 minutes of television a month, or something.

i said, after the gig is used up, we have our download speed capped at 60kbps. As it is a shared internet, via our wireless network, it is a real problem when it gets restricted.

So here's a solution: get a better ISP.

the package that we have is a $40AU ($29 U.S.) a month package. can you give me an indication of what that amount of money gets in the U.S. I want to see just how backwards australia is with its internet services.

(some other australian services might be helpful too)

Costs like 120 bucks a month for digital cable, cable internet, and some phone services.

Alpha, we have third-world quality internet here. ISP's in australia are ****ed now and always have been, you're either going to have to spend the $$ or take the pain.

$35 Canadian per month for 5mbps DSL, no cap.

£not much for kick-arse Boradband.

Solution? Move to the UK and get Blueyonder.

I just hope the new american owner of telstra gives us nicer internet. although, i seriously doubt that we will have improvements in the range of options and availability. it may even get worse. ><

Roadrunner gives me 5mbps down for $42 USD a month.

And there's no download limits at all.

Indeed. And rumours are that more speed increases will be coming as Verizon FIoS becomes available. You don't want to know how much bandwith I probably use in a month.

However, RR has terrible upstream, and I hate them for it.
