"Sam, TURN THE MUSIC DOWN!" (I need a technology reccomendation)

I heard that a minimum of ten times on this trip up to a town outside Chicago and back (The quote, not the tech reccomendation thing). I would repeatedly turn the music down to almost inaudible, and then it WOULD become inaudible.

Why? Well, my dad was playing a Johnny Cash CD my brother is obsessed with, and I've heard it atlest 25 times in the last 6 months so I'm tired of listening to it. He had it turned up to the point that at the lowest audio level which I was forced to keep my music at, I COULDN'T HEAR MY MUSIC. And so I turned my CD back up.

"DAMMIT SAM TURN IT DOWN, WE CAN HEAR THE WORDS!" My mom would shout.

"I'm listening to Phantom of the Opera...THERE ARE NO WORDS FOR MOST OF THE SONG!" I would argue.

"I don't care, I can still hear it. Turn it back down." My father would insist.

"Dad, why don't you turn down your Joh--" I would get cut off.

"Because it's not that loud, turn your music down." He would reply.

Now, my music wasn't that loud when that happened. My headphones just suck at keeping the sound just to me.

So Massassi, what I need from you is a reccomendation of in ear speakers or something that will offer good sound quality and keep the sound to ME, and ME ALONE on even the highest sound levels (just for security) and silence the sounds around me a good deal, but not like ear plugs. I'm willing to spend up to/around 60$ American on this, and no more (Yeah, I'm looking at your posts Dj-Yoshi) because I don't need them that bad.

RECCOMEND!

dude johnny cash is awesome. i dont see what the problem is.

only kidding(not about johnny cash being awesome though), i hear soudn cancelling headphones work. never actually tried them.
2005-12-30, 2:47 PM #9
Yeah, Johnny Cash is awesome (No sarcasm there, seriously) but when I've heard the CD so much because my brother is obsessed with it (every time I ride in one of our vehicles, the one my dad drives, the one that has the Johnny Cash CD in it, and my brother is in there too, THAT IS ALL WE CAN LISTEN TO, NO RADIO, NO OTHER MUSIC, JUST JOHNNY CASH.) so I'm tired of the CD.

And Genki, earbuds just don't feel right...and they suck.

Bah, I'll try them sometime if I don't buy some new headphones or something. They just don't feel right, like they're going to fall out of my ears or something...

Get a set that has the three different size pieces for the buds and they should fit better.

Yeah, the E*c line comes with 3 different sizes of 3 different materials/makes of fittings (a larger more oblong rubber fitting, more rounded less stiff rubber fitting, and foam) and I'm thankful for that. Makes the experience so much more enjoyable :)

I would reccomend a new family.

Failing that I can't hear anything if I have my e3c's in with the foam.

I'm not sure you understood what I meant Yoshi.

I have more than enough money to buy those. I'm just not going to. I am saving for a new computer, and I'm not putting out more than 50$ for these.

You just couldn't resist, could you? Yoshi, when someone says they're not spending for X amount, they generally won't spend over X amount, and I'm not spending over 50$.

I'm not mad, it's just every time I ask an opinion of him on something, or he gives an opinion on something that's electronic he always reccomends outside the requirements. That's all.

Just get a pair of decent closed headphones, or in-ear earbuds.

I've got a moderate pair of Sony earbuds with the different sized rubber ends that fit in your ear. They isolate outside sounds pretty well.

You said 60...honestly, I figured 15-20 bucks over isn't that big of a deal. Honestly, the lowest price I get on them from pricegrabber is 73.**, which isn't that much over 60. Chill.

Oh...so I did say 60. I thought I said 50, and that was what I had in my mind when I posted the thread. But, 60 wouldn't be bad, so yeah nevermind that.

Sorry 'bout that, I'll check into them.

Vin, I appreciate your suggestion, but I just looked on eBay and bought those E2c's, and even though they're ear buds I just seem to like them more. I'm waiting for shipping costs from the seller, and I'm paying.

Thanks anyway, but I bought those. Sorry..

By the way, the E2c's were 50$, and I except 15$ shipping.

I still love you Vinny...even though you're against ear buds.

I'm not a big ear bud fan, but these look better than those cheap 50 cent ones they throw into packages with like DS owner kits and crap.
Get the ones I suggested, seriously. They're amazing for the price.
More like utter crap for the price. None of the Sony MDR-Vxxx headphones are worth their weight in gold. Complete junk. No $20 headphone can beat the Koss KSC-75, which easily rivals headphones four times its price. Hell, I prefer them to my once-$300 Grado SR-325s (discontinued, they go used for $180 now). Which I just sold, because those weren't worth their weight in gold either (and they're heavy!). Well, at least in my opinion, some people love them. Grado headphones are love or hate, I'm on the hate side it seems. But let's just say they're quite "high end" and my little Kosses still blew them away.

The only time Sony is good is if you get the MDR-V6 (NOT V600) or MDR-7506 (same thing) or go into the higher end models like SA-1000, 3000, 5000, MDR-R10, CD3000, etc. Pretty much everything else Sony makes is garbage. Except those nice little Fontopia pseudo in-ears, those are nice.

Zloc, the minimum is pretty much the Shure E2/E2c/E2g (all the same). I garuntee they'll sound better than any headphone you've ever owned, and probably will sound better than your speakers, too.

If you really can't push $50, then go with the Sharp MD-33. These are considered the best of the pseudo in-ears, such as the Sony EX51, EX71, Apple In-Ears, etc. Audiocubes is about the only place you can get them, and they're a damn fine dealer to work with. Can't go wrong.

Edit: Also, yes, Bose products are complete junk. They used to have a few good things back in the 80's, but now everything is literally junk. The price is not quality, it's marketing. When you buy Bose, you're getting ripped off, plain and simple. For example, their $1,300 Acoustimass system. The satellite speakers are nothing but crappy 2.5" paper cones with foam surrounds (which they stopped using in the 70s). No acoustic padding, just thin, plastic housing. The subwoofer was equally crappy. You're getting 4 satellite speakers, a center channel and a subwoofer for $1300. You can buy the individual speakers for the satellites online for $30 per PAIR. It probably costs Bose less than $50 to make the entire thing. Their profits are so high it's sickening. They prey on people's ignorance. Ask anyone on the street who makes the best speakers. They'll probably tell you Bose, even though they've never heard one of their products. How can that be? Marketing, marketing, never underestimate it, and NEVER think you are immune from it.

Also, if your parents could hear the words, you WERE listening to it too loud. Plain and simple. My Grados leak more sound than just about anything there is, and you can't hear them a few feet away at reasonable levels. You're either exaggerating or have permanant hearing loss, which wouldn't suprise me with the way kids listen at literally damaging levels ALL the time. They say "pfft that's just what your parents tell you" or "they'll be able to fix deafness by the time I get it anyway." Sooo naive. Damn kids and their music.

Yeah, I admit I did have it a bit loud. I usually don't listen to my music that loud, generally at an average level that doens't burst my ear drums. But when I can't hear my music, I turned it up...Still, I want something that isolates the outside sound so I don't have to turn them up 3/4 of the max volume.

I've gotta say go with the Sennheiser HD-212 Pro. They're less than $100 (and that's in Canada, so their likely to be dirt cheap in the States), have terrific highs, and absolutely beautiful punchy base (using my iPod, i gave up on the equalizer for everything but Bass Boost when using my old Realistic Nova 40s, but with the 212s, i never have to touch the eq). They're also quite light weight.
