Warhammer 40k is stupidly fun. I thought you were making a thread about the cost to build an army though :p

God only knows how many posts I have.

You know what'd be a cool function (seeing as we have these threads so often)? A smiley/bbcode :postcount: or something that just displays the non-hex version of your postcount

I mean, obviously it's RIGHT THERE to the left under your name and all you have to do is hover to do it, but for some reason we still have these threads, so having a smiley like that would just make it awesomer (and more up-to-date haha)

:( I don't know where I'd buy the things to build a W40k army, and no one I know of around here has a W40k army or is into that kind of thing.

And naturally, until I build my new computer I can't play the game either.

Games Workshop.

I wish I was bored enough to paint my army and finish my Gorkamorka squad.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Five hundred? You could buy a small 500 point squad of most armies of the bare necessities for about £50 or 60. When I started out a few years back, that equated to a box of 16 boyz, two burna blister packs and a warboss blister pack. £32. And that was 400 points or so. Paint is about £2 a pot if you go for the official stuff, paint brushes £1.50, and spray £8 or £10. Even converting that into silly money it's not more than about $100.

Plus, smaller games = faster games = more enjoyable games.

Though, that's for a 2000 point army, the biggest army you're allowed to have. You can also opt for a 1500, 1000, or 500 point (well you can opt for any point-age, but that's the most commonly accepted point values) armies, which are much smaller. If you built two 500 armies it'd provide a lot of tactical fun (2000 point army games are huge, and remind me of something that people would play to test their tactical prowess on a huge scale. 500 point battles are just mainly using your units the most efficiently you can). It'd only cost about 200 for 2 200 point armies.

I disagree on the last bit, 2000 point games are so damned fun because you have so much at your disposal to wipe out the other guy with, and it's always a race to take out the vehicles. And he asked how much it'd be for an army, not a squad :p (hell, my friend's grey knights take up more than that with the crusader). But who gets less than a 2000 point army playing orc anyways? Don't you like 5 hour movement phases? :o

my army wasnt that big

4x tactical squads of 10 marines
2x 5 man terminator squad
2 landspeeders
4 bikes
10 assault marines
5 heavy marines with those big guns
a librarian
a command squad

there might have been a bit more but it wasnt that much of a massive army.

i'd consider a big battle to be something like 4000-5000 points a piece.

4000-5000 a piece would be stupidly massive. Try watching two orc players battle it out on 2000 point armies, then imagine TWICE that. Retarded amount of units.

Five hour movement phases are one thing. Fifteen-hour dice rolling binges because you only have 10 dice and you WAAAGHed with 120 boys into CC with about 4 attacks each at initiative 4... well....

Rolling dice is fun, but I've done that before. Man, I had over 200 attacks at one point because I rushed with boys to my friend's chaplain and emperor's champion, both fully decked out. Oh god, he tore through about 30 of my boys before he finally got taken down. ****in lightning claws.
