Where the heck can you play multiplayer these days, and how do you do it on DSL??? Please help, and Happy New Year's!!!!

Get gamespy arcade. I suppose just go to Gamespy.com and download it there. it's pretty good, and even tells you what games you have that are compatable with it. A lot of newer games have their own ingame way of finding and creating games.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

pretty much every game has this nifty little button in the menu... it says "Multiplayer"

Most major gaems have their own server browsers. UT2004, for instance. And the whole Steam shebang. Smaller games have less support.
