I dunno if it's old news, but a few months back I picked up a PC Magazine and there was a three page article on this. Looks cool, but I hope to GOD it doesn't have the, "Roll Dice" attack feature.

That was a different MMORPG Jim, this one isn't being developed by Sierra.

Yes, but this one isn't being made by Sierra. The other one was. The liscense is still owned by Vivendi.

well obviously they started over... but i'm just saying... same title.. probably alot of the same ideas from the old one are carried over... personally i don't care... i don't exactly like the idea of paying a monthly fee to play a game

I don't hold out much hope unless Turbine learned some hard lessons with Asheron's Call 2.

I don't think Middle-Earth Online is going to be especially good.
The Lord of the Rings movies showed how difficult it is to transpose a book into a film, and Tolkien's works are especially difficult to do so with (whereas, say, Stephen King's transpose considerably better). Tolkien's works don't make for good movies and will make for an even worse MMORPG. They have to choose between following Tolkien's works, and making a good game, and they will become torn between the two. Tolkien's works really don't allow for creative edits, or 'additions' to storylines; they're like a tower of cards, and if you remove one card then the whole tower explodes violently.
Using Tolkien mythology for a game is going to be more of a hindrance than anything else, and the creators would be much better off creating something of their own, something original, so they themselves can decide exactly on the storyline and events and characters.

I think that most games that are "stuck" within a storyline, I.E. games that are based off of a television show or movie, are generally going to be bad. The developers dont have the freedom to mold the story and the gameplay as they want. Thats why games like Star Wars Galaxies have sucked, and Final Fantasy XI and Everquest has prospered

Err? Could someone tell me the last good movie based off a Stephen King book? I mean, there have been heaps of them, so... anyone? Bueller?

The Green Mile. Before that, probably The Shawshank Redemption.

Was I the only one who liked Dreamcatcher?

I liked the The Stand series-type thing. Also Pet Semetary is totally gross, though the acting is quite bad. I think Stephen King is personally involved when they make films of his books, which probably helps.

OK, OK, Shawshank Redemption. Green Mile was a bit tedious. Haven't seen Dreamcatcher, though...

Green Mile was a really good book-to-movie conversion, they got pretty much everything spot on. I didn't think it was all that good a storyline, but I was dead impressed with the movie version of it.

I envy you. I wish I could go back to being able to say I haven't seen that movie. It scars.

Forgot about that. I think Johnny Depp saved it from being completely awful, but then, he has a penchant for choosing films that would otherwise suck and taking them to just above "ok".
