I've got a couple of writing projects going at the moment, and feel myself running out of steam. I find that two things inspire me most - music and art. I've recently come upon a wealth of workable music, but am lacking in some art.

Specifically, I mean character art. So - after seeing some of the amazing talent here on Massassi, I'd like to ask for some help. If no one's interested, that's cool, but I figured I'd at least ask.

If anyone is willing to take a few minutes and sketch out a character or two for me, (I'll PM descriptions), I'd be forever grateful. I have no artistic talent at all, and I feel that looking at some interpretations of what I'm writing would help me out a lot.

So, if you're willing or interested, either post or PM me for a description of a character.

Thanks in advance! (Or thanks anyway. :))

I dont know what to suggest, but think about it.

Women love a talented guy, whether it be art or music.

So do your very best, and women will go "OMG I LUV YOU" etc etc
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Intriguing. A command of English also often helps when pursuing young ladies of the Anglo-speaking persuasion.

WHARS THAT PM :)

I thought for sure I would have no bites on this. I really appreciate the help!

Description of the first character will be PMed out momentarily. Different interpretations ftw.

Yeah, PM me too, I'll see what I can do. ;)

Okay, the first description is out. You'll notice that the description is a little vague - this is intentional. I felt as though *who* the character was would be more important to an interpretational sketch than my demanding the character be x feet and have y type of hair. If you 'd like more specifics, I'll be glad to supply them.

Thanks again for helping me out. If I ever make it to the top, yours will be the art that got me there! (and I'll make sure everyone knows it. :))

Anyone else can feel free to ask for the PM, or if they want to try a different character, I can whip up another description. I'd love to see sketches of several characters, but I"m not about to start asking for more than what I already have. Any offers to help more would be greatly appreciated, though. :)

EDIT - Hopefully everyone got that... sent it to Elana, JediKirby, Tony, Saberopus, and Delphian. Also, hope no one finds the description boring. :(

Thanks a lot Kirbs. :)

I can't help but think there's something in that face... maybe it's the half dark/half light thing, or that most of his facial features are obscured. I just find it the most interesting part of the whole work - I've spent about five minutes now just staring at it, trying to figure out what it is that keeps attracting my attention to it.

Very nicely done (even if you 'suck at sketching'). Thanks again.

(if anyone's willing to do a second or third sketch, I am in no short supply. But like I said, I'll take whatever I can get).

edit - I don't think he's scratching himself... I think it's just the angle that was chosen.

edit round 2 - Kirby, what was it you had in mind when you were asking about artistic license? Just curious as to what you saw. /me likes to see interpretations.

I had this odd Demon esque dude that popped into my head (Those are tatoos):

I also had this guy pop up as I was drawing, and he might help:

I'd like to note: I'm far better on paper. I hate the tablet for freehand sketching.

What tablet are you using, kIRBs? Go to Brush Options and set Brush opacity to also vary w/ pen pressure... 'cos then you'll get that built up look, and ALL your lines won't be so bold. It'll look a bit more refined in general, I think.

Only problem with this is that the harder you press, the larger the line is and the darker it is... which is a tad annoying because usually you want the inverse... dark thin lines, and less opaque large brushes to fill areas... but I don't think you can invert it.

Very cool.

The second one is definately a different view of the character. Could be a view of what the inside would look like if externalized. An interesting interpretation, to say the least. I definately see why you asked about license, though.

I can use that sketch for another character in the same series, who actually *is* a demon.

From a purely casting perspective, the second one doesn't really fit the character. There's a lack of the brooding maliciousness that makes the character who he is. I could see this more as a ruler (of which there is one I have in mind for this sketch) with an unseen trouble. I see this char.sketch as someone with a heavy burden that they'll never be rid of.

That isn't to say that I can't use the sketch - it actually gave me an idea for a scene involving the character it reminds me of.

That first sketch remains my favorite of the three. I'm not sure why; there's just something that gets at the "I'm a badass and I know it." ego that the character thrives on. I see two facial expressions in it - simultaneously a dark smugness and a low, emotionless stare (though the upper face is hidden). The way the eyes are hidden hints at what the character himself is trying to do (in terms of internal war). I like the interpretation of those things, intentional or not.

Thanks for the work.

Got another description if you're interested/willing. :)

Looking foward to seeing the other sketches ( if any more are to come)
