anyone have any real world experience with the compatibility with these 2 suites?
word, excel and access are what i'm interested in.

I've never had any problem going from one to the other, but then I've never made any fancy things in them, just standard word processing.
VTEC just kicked in, yo!

I've had OO fail to open some *.doc files, but generally they were in older formats, and even Word didn't like them much. Also didn't like loading macros in a *.xcl (or I just couldn't them to run), so I had to Excel for that.

I've never had any problems, and I'm doing this on a mac.

As long as you structure your document correctly (ie using the correct heading styles and whatnot) things should transfer flawlessly.

The only problem I've encountered is if I make a *.ppt in OpenOffice and bring it over to MS Office, some of the objects in the presentation can lose their font size and style settings (which makes for some jumbled slides).
