It's not as bad as I'd thought it'd be.

Sooo.....I'm single now. My girlfriend called and said she just wants to be friends. And you know what? I'm alright. Haven't felt this good in a while, in fact. Sure, I cried (I mean, she was my first gf...of course I'm gonna be hurt), but it's like this door of opportunity has just swung open. I feel like she's tought me something, and these past 8 months weren't just for nothing. I'm on my way to being experienced, and it feels good. Thank you Natalie. *turns up Jimi Hendrix*

Hmm, well, that sucks that you broke up, but it's good that she was honest and straightforward about it anyways. Best of luck to you in your new ventures or finding a new girl!

What do you mean, kirb.

Women suck.

It's quite a liberating feeling, when that happens, yeah. I've never experienced it from the side of the one getting dumped (bad phrase) but I'm sure it's similar.
2006-01-04, 8:15 PM #7
I think what kirby means is that she's selling you short. Especially if she just called up and made it that easy. "Oh yeah, I don't want to do the whole 'serious relationship' thing we've been doing for 8 months. How do friends sound?" Did she give some sort of reason?

You weren't as into it as you thought either, given the way you're taking it. Twas for the best.

Yes, they should stick it out until they both become resentful and become hateful and vile towards each other, scarring the relationship and hurting both their lives. Instead of saying it doesn't work and moving on. That makes sense.

No, I'm not saying that, it just seemed to me that she didn't really justify her breaking up. I don't know, 8 months seems like an aweful long time to just up and feel like friends.

Damn. No, she didn't give me any reason.

But you see, in the last 5 of the 8 months we've been growing apart more and more...I'm not sure why. I asked if it was because of my overly shyness, she said no, not at all.....but I happen to know that's the only thing that came between us. I can't think of any other reason. So she's got me thinkin it's my fault.....****.

Exactly. Maybe, instead of just breaking it off, you should have asked her what the problem was, etc etc. Why break up if it's a solvable problem? That's why communication is key.

But whatever. I don't know the full situation. That's just what I'd be concerned about.

Don't ask me why I post this stuff here, I guess it's just nice to get feedback from fellow geeks. ;)

I get the feeling i'm gonna be in same boat as Delphian very soon.

My gf rang me 6 hours ago with the purpose of telling me (whilst sobbing uncontrolably) that she "just couldnt do this anymore"

I have been away for a long time, for 2 weeks i havent seen her beautiful face.

And I found out today I have NO money left, ie, cant afford to catch the train up there, i can only get driven up in a few days time

She basically hates the fact that I dont have my own house or job there, and always just stay at her house, and do very little.

basically, i need to make a life for myself up there.

RIght now though, i dont think i would take being dumped as well as Delpboy

really, demanding reasons would just make it more difficult for both. I mean, I see where you're coming from, kirb, but if it's just not working or not fixable, just kind of accept it and move on, you know?

and I'm so sorry if that's the case, Ruthven :(

I wish I could ask for GF advice... but she reads these forums sometimes :/
2006-01-04, 10:20 PM #19
I think we should, then, start a "CoolMatty's Girlfriend Is Ugly And Stupid" thread. I assure you, she'd stop coming then.

@Delphian: don't give it any more thought. You've moved on, she's moved on. If there was anything going on outside of the relationship, you're free to break off your friendship with her. In the mean time, go clubbing or hop-skotching, or whatever it is you kids do for fun these days.

Whenever I see another "omg where iz the on switch for my gurlfriend" thread here at this site, my mind instantly cuts to the shot of the apes clawing blindly and with much frustration at the tools in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Don't worry, no malice intended. I'm in the same boat.

Sorry to side-track things, but we definately need to figure out a way to use that in NeS!

That sucks man :( but at least you feel you've learnt something from it, thats the most important thing. Relationships are a learning experience, as long as you go on and take something from that relationship and bring it into your next, then you're on the way to becoming a better boyfriend.

Now get out there and have fun :)

Yeah, that sucks dude. :(

I so very much hate hearing "just friends." Yes, I'm in the same boat because I got this last week. And no reason, either. I'm convinced there are only a select few women that will tell you what they *really* think when they are not angry.

how many threads have you started for advice? you have no experience.

"i just want to be friends" is pretty much saying "i don't want to see you again", only trying not to hurt your feelings.

i did the most cruel breakup ever, cause she was being a jerk. i did it over IM. She was in south dakota, me in minnesota. and i did it the day before semester exams started. for a while i thought maybe that was a mistake, then she kept acting like a jerk, and yeah, i still thought it was a mistake. but it taught her how to treat her men...
