You still haven't given me a reason to watch the Oscars.

I really wish Jon Stewart wasn't so popular. He's pretty funny, and fairly cool, but he takes quite an extremist look on a lot of things, and generally it pisses me off that people get their news and their political views from him. It's like they're sheep or something. I've never seen anything like it.

Welcome to 21st Century Earth. Where the general dumbass (98%) population bases their lives off, gossip, style, business, world, and most of their attention, to celebrities.

And his views are all parodical in nature (is that a word? Parodical?).
If a democrat were in office, we'd be hearing... jokes about democrats.

-but then again, I think he'd still make fun of FOX News.

I don't think he's that extremist. I mean, he's in no way neutral, but seriously, if the democrats were in power, he'd be making fun of them too, and he still does make fun of both sides. It's whoever's in the foreground. (basically what bearded_jarl said) And honestly, though I guess it's because I'm a democrat, I can't really argue wit a lot of it.

But it is true that a lot of people just completely take what he says and run with it without questioning it, which is sad but true in many cases. It just works in my favor this way :p

I'm definitely pretty excited about him host the Oscars though
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

Don;t blame Jon Stewart for that. He himself says his show is comedy, not news. Blame the moronic US public for not being able to distinguish news from comedy.

Notice I never said I disrespected Jon in the post. I don't blame him at all--just the public (and I can't even say the American public anymore--he's become an international phenomenon).

I hold Jon Stewart in the highgest respect, especially after the Hardball incident, and when he said before elections "Turn off the TV, get informed, and decide for yourself. Don't listen to [news reporters]"

I don't think he could make the Oscars fun though.

It's only shown on more4 in the Uk, which you can't get without having digital.
nope.

I've never even heard of more4.

I've not seen Daily Show on any channel, even my multitude of digital ones, I only know who Jon Stewart is because I obtain the Daily Show from *cough* bittorrent *cough*. He certainly isn't an 'international phenomenon', and he most certainly doesn't have any significant influence on political viewpoints outside the US.
That isn't to say that Jon Stewart isn't funny, or that non-Americans are any less sponge-like, only that a lot of the topical comedy on the Daily Show is very much concerning domestic issues and would have no importance to anyone outside the US (in the precisely the same way that Have I Got News For You in the UK does). Like a while ago they did a whole thing about Martha Stewart - I suppose that was quite funny, but I have no idea who Martha Stewart is so most of that comedy was completely lost on me (for an obligatory parallel, see Boris Johnson).

More4 is new the "adult" entertainment channel that channel 4 run. Documentaries and the like. Mind you I only found out what the Daily Show/who Jon Stewart is the other night when Tofu told me.
nope.

Actually more4 has some great shows. When it launched they showed the first 3 series of The Sopranos, one a day. They also show father ted. (And any channel that shows father ted is ok in my books.) Also, Curb Your Enthusiasm can be great. From what i've watched of the daily show, John Stewart can be funny but most of the jokes are lost on me because i don't know enough about US politics.
