WoW hates system restore

Okies, so... Let's start from the begining.

Yesterday, I decided to redownload my video drivers for some god forsaken reason. Didn't restart like it told me to, because I never do that. Phht.

Anywho, I turn off the computer at about 9 and watch MXC (:)). After a few laughs I went to bed. This morning, Mr. Computer decides to tell me that I had to switch to 600 x 480 and 4-bit video settings. "Oh noes!" I said, and promptly set system restore.

The closest point to yesterday was Tuesday. Patch day.

Whenever I start WoW it's all "CRITICAL ERROR!". So I thought I didn't have the patch anymore, redownloaded it, and get some "CHECKSUM ERROR!". Ran the repair utility which found nothing.

Is there a way I can downgrade WoW so I can repatch it, or do I have to go through the hour long nightmare of installing it again?

I'm guessing you have to uninstall and reinstall it for it to work. Its always best to work from a clean slate as I would put it.

As true as that may be, WoW is probably the worst thing to install next to Diablo 2 and UT2k4. Not only that, but I'll have to download the full patch which will take a while not only to download, but to install. I don't want to make the same mistake I made with my old computer and simply start over (I reformated that and now I can't even start it up because it's missing a driver that isn't available anymore.)

You try installing Everquest 2 and tell me if WoW is worst. :P

EQ2 has 9 bloody cd's and then about 2 hours download of patches and upgrades. YUCK.

Each FFXI patch takes about 2 hours to download in itself, the original patching (From the original CDs, not the new "Vana'Diel Collection"), takes about 6-10 hours on DSL or cable.

Sounds like a good time to get Guild Wars... its only two cds and barely a gig of space is needed for it :)

Yeah, I got it as a Christmas gift. I gave up WoW because I got tired of the crappy endgame.

Whoever said Diablo II was an issue is looney. It's super easy.

FFXI takes damn near forever though. Not only does it do a version check on every single file (which takes a long *** time), but it also downloads a ton more files, and replaces about half the installation. On top of that, the server it connects to is slow, and if you don't keep the window active, it downloads even slower.

that is strange, it didnt take that long when i did the update after installing (the game is bundled with the two expansions in its release here, on cds) and i still had a 56k connection then. it checks the files for a reason, it means that if you get your update inturupted, you can continue from the file where you were cut off.

Because redownloading / installing the drivers didn't work. I don't want to play all my games in 600 x 480 resolution and 4 bit colour. Thanks.

Found my cds. Rejoicing :D
