If Galaxies didn't have player Jedi, it would be great. But when every other person has five alt Jedi accounts, its pathetic.
Guild Wars I only tried for a short while during one of their "open weekends", it was very pretty. Didn't really get to have a good go at it, but it was very pretty.
WoW is fun, but only if you're playing with at least a few other people all the time... you can go off and explore stranglethorn vale (I think thats what its called) but you're buggered if you actually find anything. "Hey, did you want insert amazingly rare plant/mob spawn/etc? Oh crap, whats *URK*" "Yeah, sure, where are you?" "Dead."
City of Heroes is a game you can easily pick up and dive into for half an hour, without having to hang around for buffs, head to a store for potions, or sit at a meeting stone for a year whilst people go "Oh, you're that class? They suck." if you're not a min/maxer. I didn't get a chance to try CoV, but I can only imagine that its just as fun.
A relatively unknown MMO is Neocron/Neocron 2. If you're looking for a cyberpunk feel, go for this. Its an MMOFPS (Not like GunZ), and I believe its recently undergone a major facelift (newer graphics engine, models, etc) to bring it up to modern standards, since it began looking like Deus Ex.
Along the same vein is Face of Mankind, but I've not had a lot of experience with it. Last I checked FoMk was still in open beta.
Hope that helped.
"Whats that for?" "Thats the machine that goes 'ping'" PING!
Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.
MCMF forever.
