A question about IE.

Why is there Internet Explorer on an OSX computer? I mean, the browser comes with Apple computers but I just find it odd why it comes with the OS software. There's Safari browser that comes with it also (which seems to work much better). The iBook I got as a give a year ago came with IE, but the time I recieved the laptop, IE was quiet outdated and had problems showing sites properly. Couldn't Apple make their own browser? (plz no flamewars)

I'm not too fond with the technical history of Apple and IE, I just find it rather pointless to just have the IE browser on an OSX machine. Please fill me in. :gbk:

Safari is Apple's browser.

I guess they include IE as some sort of "service"...

I'm not quite sure.

At any rate, although it is IE, it is actually better than the windows version. It has a bit better compatibility, cause it was done by a different coding team.

The ie for osx is getting abandoned soon funilly enough. I stick to firefox, safari, opera and camino.

I can never decide what I want!!

IE for Mac is already unsupported.

I'd suggest sticking to Safari or Camino, frankly.

Surely you can be more frank than that! Where's the fun in just recommending two, when the others are obviously ripe for the flaming? :p

(I only discovered camino this week, and it's growing on me fast)

IE for Mac was an awesome browser in it's day and is completely unrelated to Windows IE. (It was much more standards compliant, for one.) It hasn't been updated in quite a while though and, as mentioned, is already unsupported by Microsoft.

Safari is a great browser.

On a similar thread, ofice for OSX is soooooo much nicer to use than Office for Windows. The floating collapsible toolbar is much better than the windows interface. MS did really well with that bad boy.

(And messanger for mac had "log in as [busy] [away] [etc]" functionality far before it became standard on the windows client)
