iPod vs other MP3 players

Just a nice little comparison thread, because so many threads are biased (ex: applegeeks.com, pcworld.com, ect). So what would you rahter have?

I have a SanDisk Sansa m250 2.0 GB MP3 player. I always trust SanDisk for my memory needs (best flash drives ever). Along with excellent battery life (been playing it for like a month with e2 lithium AAA, still using same battery), great sound quality, custom equalizer and equalizer presets, FM radio, microphone, good backlit screen, MP3, WMA, and Windows Music Store capability, and driver and software updates, it's a great buy for only $130.00.

So, what do you prefer?

I have a third gen iPod and I'm happy with it, still holds the same charge it did when I bought it.

Friend at work has one of those new iPod video things. So insanely jealous, she sits at her desk watching Friends and Smallville all day.

I prefer my iPod Mini. It's easy to use and my new stereo has an attachment that allows me to directly interface with the iPod (the stereo itself acts as the controlling interface for the attached iPod).

I just have a cheap little mp3 play along with a 1gb SD card. That suits me fine. If I were to ever get an Ipod, I would use linux on it instead. This way I'm not forced to work with Itunes and such.

P.S. I'm biased. PC>Mac ;)

I went through three Mp3 Players before the iPod, and none of them pleased me as much as the pod. It's simple, looks great, integrates with the Mac well obviously, and seeing as how I buy a great deal of music from Itunes, it made sense to get an iPod.

Same here, but 2 players and don't buy very much from the iTunes store.

20GB 4th gen, does exactly what it says on the tin.

The iPods I've used are pretty nice, but I really like the iAudio players out now. For Christmas I got a 512mb Sandisk flash player that I'm very happy with.

I have a (currently broken, I was doing Parkour and broke the up volume button and now it is all the way down) Creative Muvo Micro for running and such. Fairly happy with it but when I am rich I will probably get an iPod.

I would chose a DAP other than an iPod for the more extensive features, such as better codec support and battery life.

Don't you listen to RTfM?!?

http://rtfm.oscempire.net

If you want the long and short of it--we found the iAudio X5 to be probably the best offering out there as far as commercial players go. We didn't cover the creative players much--but with short battery lifes, faulty headphone jacks, and almost overly weighty physical forms, they aren't the best. They ARE very cheap though, so I'd think about them if you're short on cash. Also, the iRiver and iAudio players are the only big-name players out there (well, Samsung too but they're kinda expensive at the moment) that I know of that can be used straight up as portable Harddrives with drag and drop for music.

I have a Dell mp3 player. Got it because it was at least $50 less than the comperable iPod. Works just as well as far as I'm concerned. I've had it for near 2 years now and it works like it did when it came out of the box.

I had a Mini (graduation present) lasted about 6 months before it started crashing

took it back:
mini discontinued, nano sold out, convinced best buy to give me store credit, got a Creative Zen

Simple math: 4 gig Nano = same price as 8 gig Zen micro photo (both w/ color screen)

therefore:
Zen > iPod

but the iPod interface is very good I must admit

iPod, but only because it's compatable with iTunes, where ALL of my music is on. I have a Dell mp3 player which works fine, but it's a huge pain trying to get music on it.

Not really...the Nano runs off flash memory which takes less battery life to upkeep. That's about the only advantage (other than size) you have over anything else though with a nano.

I've got an Oregon Scientific MP100. It's bloody small, has 10 hours of battery, 256MB and stays around my neck.

I <3 it so.

Wrong.

I would only get an Ipod if it was given to me, bought extremely cheap, or stolen by myself. (There are better things to steal in my opinion) If I had an Ipod, Linux would be the first thing on it.

i think they are just selling what they have left... i still want the X5L... better battery life

and SAJN... i've never owned one but i have used one... i can find good things to say about them... but the bad things i have to say push me towards other players because they are mostly things that directly affect sound quality

my friend is an avid mac user and he has owned about every ipod that has come out. we traded my iriver H340 and his ipod video for a day and he liked mine better and i hated his.

seriously, they're not liying, the audio quality sucks compared to jukeboxes. especially the H340 with SRS.

I love how people complain about the audio quality on iPods. The quality sounds just as good as if I was listening to the mp3 on my PC, or if I was listening to it right from the CD. I don't have freakishly overly sensitive ears like you people.

so lets say the majority of the population has 20/20 vision(i know it's a huge stretch, but bare with me), and you need glasses to see. you take your glasses off and most of your friends can read a sign 100 feet away from you perfectly. do you tell them they have overly sensitive eyes?
