I decided I was in the mood to play JK again, so I dusted off the last couple years of dust that had accumulated around the jewel case. I installed the program, all default settings, launcher comes up, click play and... nothing.

Tried again... nothing.

Just a quick flicker on the screen is the most the program will do.

I tried different compatibility modes, uninstalled, reinstalled, even made offerings to the people at LEC...nothing...

So does anyone have any ideas on how I may be able to solve this problem so I can play JK again? All other older titles like XvT and XWA work fine.

I never had any problems running JK in XP. Did you try browsing to the JK directory and running the JK.exe executable instead of trying to start it from the launcher?

I don't mean to insult your intelligence and ask the obvious but if you're using WINXP, have you made sure you have the correct file permissions set-up and can access the necessary files if you have any sort of "user profiles" setting in place?

Just a random thought - I seriously doubt this to be the case, especially if other titles are working but...meh...

Catsby recommends trying the -window gui command line as it could be a problem with your monitor having trouble with 640x480.

Catsby also suggests that you make sure you are running the correct sound driver for your soundcard.

Sound drivers are current and up to date.

I decided to install MOTS and try that... MOTS runs perfectly fine.

Catsby thinks there is something wrong with your CD. Catsby suggests copying the JK_.cd file from the resource directory to the JK\Resource directory.

Catsby believes it could be a problem with reading the intro video that is causing problems.

I installed JK on my moms laptop which has XP..the same thing happened to me, so I restarted my PC, and now it works

really frustrating

Mine does the same thing (exepect I run win98), and I think it is a CD problem, becuase the demo works fine, as does MOTS.
