Sorry, but I just couldn't resist...

2. Train heavy. if you can do >8 reps youre working too light, if oyu can't do <4 reps w/o good form you're lifting too heavy.

3. Don't expect to look like the guys in fitness mags... you only get like that if you're on juice, which is a big no-no. Do it naturally.

Umm....No..

1. Whoever told you cardio is useless, should be slapped to death with a fish. Cardio is the most useful way of burning fat and excess calories. Cardio doesn't burn off muscle, you CANNOT burn off muscle... Once muscle is there, it stays, unless you elect to not work out at all for along period of time, in which the muscle will STILL remain, however shrink in bulk size.

2. You should NEVER work out heavy, your muscles don't get the proper exercise. 8-12 reps is good, for both bulking up and gaining strength. It isn't the weight that adds to it, it's all your form. Anything less than 8 is insufficient. Less reps does not mean nothing except that you're wasting your time.

3. Semi-true, you CAN look like the guys in the fitness magazines without juice or steroids of any kind. Only you have to do what a lot of them do..... Spend most of each and every day in the gym.

Suffice it to say that I cannot lift even my own body weight (120 lbs/54 kg). I'm most definitely not strong.

I can run at ~7 min pace for over an hour. Well...once I get back into shape that is.

I know. That's why I want to purchase a bench.

[edit]Of course, I'm off to college in August, and I'm sure they have a quality gym.

you learned wrong buddy. cardio does not only burn muscle :-s the fact that that was bullet number one, im suggesting to myself not to take the rest of your advice even though you sound confident because that is plain wrong.

Perhaps I should rephrase that.

I'm not saying all cardio is bad for any workout, it depends primarily on what you're trying to do. Perhaps i was mistaken when i said that cardio burned muscle.

If you're trying to bulk, it does not help to do cardio b/c it uses up energy that you need for lifting and energy you need to recover post workout. Let me say it again: if you are BULKING, consider cardio to be a hinderance.

cardio is good if you're trying to lose general weight (but not for cutting ) and/or build endurance.

Even if you're cutting to improve definition, I can't recommend cardio b/c:

1. youre still lifting, so you will need as much energy as possible

2. cutting involves continuing to lift heavy (to preserve muscle size) while ensuring a negative calorie balance (to ensure that fat is used up instead of being added to.) The result is improved definition.

I've reached my goals in both bulking and cutting before while doing this method, so I'm posting what has worked for me.

I believe in lifting heavy b/c it does give your muscles/heart a workout (try squatting a few sets and see how much your heart gets going). Lifting heavy does give you a workout, so that's why you don't really need cardio. Doing cardio any time during your lifting session is just overkill.

I lift heavy b/c unlike some of you, my plan involves doing upper body/ lower body once a week, so I make it count. The rest of the time involves recovery.

I've done what many of you people have done in the past back in high school, with working out every day/doing lots of reps per set, and I never really got anywhere. I get much better results with what i do now, but to each his own.

I assumed that It is a given that everything i provided is tweakable and requires customization for each person. My guide is not set in stone, its only something to start from.

I think I benched the pole once.

But really, I've never worked out in my whole life.

I could barely get the pole up once. It was a whoppin' 45 pounds! (wow -_- ).
Um, I have very weak arms. My legs might be average (except running), or they were back when I played on the soccer team.

Working with your own body weight is a lot easier. Just do press-ups, and put your feet on a chair or up against a wall once you're strong enough. Put your hands closer together to work out your pectoral muscles more.
