So I had to hook up my second power supply again because my computer was being a ***** with only one. Does anyone else have more than one power supply in their computer?

My computer is powered by my own sense of self-worth

Wow, never would have thought of that. Thanks.

No really, I don't have 100 bucks to blow on a power supply right now, and while having an extra one sitting on top of the computer is ugly, it works just fine.

And loud, and inefficient, and it makes your processor overheat because of all the wires thus damaging it and shortening it's life. It shouldn't be but about 60-70 CAD for a new one. Save up, it's not that hard.

Hmmmm, maybe he is more aware of his financial situation than you?

Only $60 or $70? Everywhere I've seen it's almost, or more than $100. Granted, I'm assuming that it would be the same power as both my current power supplies added together (350 + 200 = 550). I probably don't really need that much.

How much power should I need? (Athlon 64 3400+, 6800GT, 2 hard drives, up to four DVD/CD drives)

You seriously could just do with two CD/DVD drives, and you wouldn't have to buy anything.

Four optical drives!? One DVDRW is enough for me..

I have two SATA HDs, one optical drive, a P4 3Ghz, 1.5Gb DDR2 and an x800 running on 305w..plus a few USB-powered USB devices.

Well, *up to* four. I only have two hooked up right now (DVD-RW and DVD-ROM/CD-RW). As far as USB devices go... well I hadn't really counted the power that an optical mouse draws to be a big concern.

It isn't..but I still don't understand why you would ever need more than two optical drives..lol

Maybe I'm more aware of the fact that I can raise that money rather quickly--so I don't see how he couldn't. Honestly.

400W-450W. I ran my system on 300 for a while, 400W should be more than enough (I've got 500 atm)

Psh...4 optical drives. I have 4 Hard Drives, one CD Burner, one DVD Burner, along with typical other parts (PCI-e graphics, A64, etc.). Now that thing needs powar!

Actually I do want to get a couple more hard drives. Maybe two 60 or 100 gig ones, RAID them together, and use it for gaming or video editing or whatever. Probably not until the summer though.
