I just want to know whether it's worth formatting my hard disk if I'm pretty much completely overhauling my PC. Would it be worth it or not, because my dad says I shouldn't need to, while I think I should.

Do you have all your work and everything backed up? if so, go for it.

It's not really necessary unless you have a ton of crap on your hard drive that you don't need or want. If you do, be sure to back up what you want to keep
