Here's what you can expect. They'll operate on him roughly six hours after being admitted to the hospital. The operation will be done laproscopically, so they won't have to cut up his abdomen.
They just drill three holes in you, one through your belly button, and two above each hip. Then they stick a camera in there and some machines so they can see what they're doing.
The operation won't take too long.
Then they will keep him in the hospital overnight for observation. The nurses will wake him up every few hours to make sure he's okay, ( >:( ), but it won't really bother him that much because he'll be in a morphine-induced haze the whole time.
The next day will be very painful for him. The nurses will help him walk around the floor of the hospital a few times. Walking and moving in general will be quite painful. He will probably be allowed to go home sometime this day.
At least that was what my experience was like. :p And I don't have any scars from that operation. He probably won't be up to snuff for about a week to two weeks, after which he'll be completely back to normal.
