Coffins. And jars.

Have you ever wanted to design your own coffin? Or those odd jars if you want your body BURNED...

I have, at least when I really don't have anything else to do. I suspect that I will end up in some smelly shoebox though.

I've never really thought about it, but when I'm dead I'm sure I won't care what my coffin looks like, and I'm sure others won't care when it's under the ground.

I read somewhere you can have your ashes made into a diamond. It's yellow because of all the carbon but I thought that would be morbidly cool.. Somewhere in the future, some unfortunate descendent walking around with my remains on their finger or in their ear

Not the coffin. But I have sometimes thought it would be nice to design my own tombstone. Although I wouldn't want it to be a stone but one of those rusty iron crosses you see in horror movies.

I don't know why anyone wants their body buried. It's gonna turn to ash when the world is burned to a crisp when the sun goes transforms into a red giant anyway.

I don't know about designing my coffin, but I want to choreograph my own funeral before I go.

Weird you should post this now, just last night I was watching a travel show and the guy was touring Texas and made a stop at the National Museum of Funeral History. They went around with a tour guide and had stories about different coffins - check out the story about the "coffin for three" that is briefly described on that page... eerie. Also view the page of photos of coffins from Africa. Some of these are really elaborate.

I haven't thought about coffin design much for myself, because I hope to be cremated and then dumped somewhere... not very particular where, this is just the best way to get my remains back in the ecosystem quickly. Next part might be slightly graphic, so.. It would also be nice to die out in the mountains or desert where I live and have insects, mushrooms, bacteria, and other wildlife take you apart and return what you've borrowed back into the environment more quickly than someone buried in a concrete vault, coffin, formaldehyde, etc. My opinion anyway.

For some reason, the thought of me actually designing my own coffin/urn just seems a bit odd. I don't think that this is one of the items that I should be remembered by; after all, it should be my LIFE that I am remembered by, not some dingy little jar or box that no one will really bother to look at anyway.
