yeah if i thought most human rights groups today had any real credibility then i might agree... seriously though, you want to help with human rights, why dont they start with some of the really bad countries like

I don't think you can argue about their credibility. Did you read the report?

The US government doesn't even deny the accusations about the treatment of 'enemy combatants'. They argue it is 'legal' because they made a special law for the treatment of enemy combatants. In fact they especially designed this law, so they could do this. Fact remains that they're violating international treaties and conventions.

So don't start saying it isn't true, it is very true. The US government simply claims she has a right to do this.

I'd be more worried about the credibility of politicians.

And, it's not just about who's the bad guy or who's to blame.

Look at it this way: If the US and the coalition want any credibility in the Middle East of being a friendly power that is there to help them build a democracy, they should be giving the good example. This is not helping their cause.

Indeed, about half of that quote would be hypothetical- But I have the distinct impression that you would argue with most people on which half it was...

Look... I'll say this... if there is any real reason to have gone back to Iraq, it would have been to correct the mistake made more than 10 years ago in the first war. They should have never let Saddam stay in power and rebuild.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Indeed, this is why I was actually fairly dissapointed when the US didn't provide the support that the Iraqi rebellion of '93 needed to actually topple Saddam; they asked for supply assistance, and got a deaf ear. Saddam subsequently crushed the resistance easily.

But who else, then? Most other "famous figures" that could've been selected would've been just about as inhumane, just for differing reasons.
